What to Do in Singapore

What comes first to mind when thinking about visiting Singapore is going on a shopping spree in one of its many malls or at its famous shopping street Orchard Road or buying ethnic products, jewelry, textiles, antiques and much more in Kampong Glam, Little India and Chinatown.

But there is much more to discover in Singapore.

If you want to get to know Singapore’s food you have to visit the Hawker Food Markets. Hawkers used to sell their food on the streets of Singapore either on foot or behind carts until the government got them off the streets in the 1970s. They were moved into Hawker Centers which can be found all over Singapore. And even though you can now enjoy the food in air conditioned surroundings it is still the same delicious and affordable food that was sold on Singapore’s streets.

You have never been to Las Vegas? Why not visit Marina Bay Sands, Singapore’s very own Las Vegas. The resort features the city’s biggest casino, a shopping mall with its own canal and gondolas rides and the world’s highest rooftop pool on top of the three 55 floor curved skyscrapers.

Want to enjoy a drink in one of Singapore’s number one destination for party goers, then Clarke Quay at the Singapore River is the place to go. Along the Riverside you will also find great places for dining.

Go on a Singapore Walk. Graveyards, smoke houses, wet markets, gun batteries, the city’s best-kept secret places. You name it, they have it. Locals and travellers alike are taken off the off the beaten track, and are entertained with an endless store of anecdotes that reveal the true heart of the city.

If you like surfing, Wave House in Sentosa will be the right place for you. In this 70,000 square feet beachfront venue you can enjoy up to 10 ft high waves produced by a wave simulator. Instructors are standing by so that even beginners can learn how to enjoy the waves. And the Wave House Bar and Restaurant serves delicious food to famished surfers.

Visit a Public Swimming Complex. To fight the heat in Singapore there are a host of public swimming pools available in the city. There are pools that offer lazy pool, wave pool and heaps of slides. Entrance fees are in general  between $1 and $2 per person.

Board Game Cafes are quite popular in Singapore and they are great places to meet with friends, colleagues or family enjoying good food in nice company.

If you travel with your children you can’t miss The Port of Lost Wonder, which is a beach club specially designed for kids. Children can enjoy the water play area, have picnics on themed islets or participate at specially designed activities like Pots & Planks, seasonal workshops or a bubble party.
