Whatever type of food you may like, from spicy ethnic foods to the traditional roast, or meals tweaked with modern culinary twists, there is something for everyone on our list of the best restaurants in London for Sunday lunch.  Sunday lunch holds a special place in the British culture, and it is only natural that many restaurants in the city are crowded on Sunday afternoons. It is important, then, to make sure you choose the right place to make your Sunday lunch the best it can be.

There is a concept prevailing among many that extended sleeping on Sunday mornings make you wake up especially hungry. And with time running out for lunch, looking for an eatery for some quick and delicious bites to prepare yourself for the day (and sleeping again!) is the way to go. Here is our list of the best restaurants in London for Sunday lunch:

Simpson’s in the Strand

If you prefer to stick to tradition and have a soft spot for lunchtime roasts, then this old-school dining room would be to your liking. Get a taste of the roast rib of Scottish beef, which is the signature dish of this century-old restaurant.  The tinkling sound of live piano creates the perfect ambience for a laid-back Sunday afternoon, as carvers keep fleeting across the floor with antiquated trolleys, serving the steaming dishes to guests.  Enjoy the serving of roasts together with savoy cabbage and Yorkshire pudding, a combination that may be enticing enough to beckon you back there on the following Sunday.

Jikoni

Your search for spicy delicacies will surely end at Jikoni, with plenty of tasty lunch options on Sundays. The restaurant ambience and decor play a major role in making the Sunday lunch experience most memorable.  Staying true to the holiday spirit, there is an air of relaxed luxury in the decor that creates a very home-like atmosphere. Antique tables and cushions with covers made from sari fabrics lend a touch of intimacy to the place. The weekend papers spread around the restaurant inform you about the speciality of the afternoon. The menu is loaded with multi-cultural treats that carry the flavours of India, Kenya, and the UK.

The Albion

The Albion in Islington is by far the most befitting place to enjoy your London Sunday lunch at a pub.  The menu is charming, to say the least, with knockout wild duck, roast Hampshire pork, and plates filled with Yorkshire puddings calling your attention. Perch on a high-back wooden stool facing the bar and enjoy your drinks as you whet your appetite for gorging on the sumptuous food that follows. Certainly one of the best restaurants in London for Sunday lunch.

Rex Whistler Restaurant

This eatery has earned an extraordinary name because of its aesthetic attempts, communicated through a fascinating painting showed on the divider. Titled “The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats,” it has been a wellspring of beguilement for visitors. From hamburger to pigeon, a wide range of meats show themselves on the Sunday menu, along with a tasty beverages available from the basement. However, the six-hour sheep dish is an experience that can’t be missed.

Sticky Fingers

Bill Wyman, the creator of Sticky Fingers and bass player with the Rolling Stones, has used melodic memorabilia to create a fabulous Stones-themed restaurant. A considerable measure of thick shakes and free vanilla creams find a place on a menu that fuses cheeseburgers and BBQ ribs – in addition to fresh fish and juicy steak. Whether you are a Rolling Stones fan or not, you will marvel at this exquisite place. Great for families!

Bubba Gump Shrimp

This restaurant in London’s Trocadero area is themed after the American film Forrest Gump. Found close to the Piccadilly Circus tube station, it is an ideal place for a family outing with kids, who will love the youth menu that includes chicken fingers, popcorn shrimp, and macaroni cheddar – not to mention a station where they can build their own sundae. Aside from the obvious shrimp dishes, the restaurant has great steak and chicken options as well.

Boundary Rooftop

This rooftop eatery is deliberately situated to ignore Shoreditch and the buzz of the city – making it a standout among the most beloved spots for couples on a Sunday lunch date. The plateau de fruits de mer is a definite showstopper (prawns, mussels, clams, oysters, and crab) on a menu that likewise offers a great selection of barbecued fish and meat with small plates for sharing tapas-style.
