If you really want to make the most of your holiday time, where should you go? The answer is obvious – England! It is a land of historic castles, parks, museums, and lots more.

Whether you are a solo traveler or you are visiting with your family, you will surely take home some fond memories once you have visited England. To make your itinerary hassle free, you can choose to travel with British Airways. So, when you are in England, these are the 10 things you should do.

 

Visiting Roman Baths

Topping the list is a visit to the Roman Baths. This gives you a sneak peek into how public bathing was done in the 19th century. Once you are here, invest your time in exploring the Roman Temple, Sacred Spring, and the Roman Bath House. Every year, around 1 million tourists visit the Roman Baths, and it is undoubtedly a must visit. If you wish, the Roman Baths can also be seen from the terrace, which is embellished by the statues.

 

University of Cambridge

Being the center of public research in England, it is also the 2nd oldest university in the world. You can cherish the practical and cultural associations that the university manages to portray. Today, it is a collegiate university and has more than 18,000 students. The university offers the students sports clubs, art centers, and other school related facilities. Many of the college buildings have a rich tradition and history.

 

The Eden Project

Spread in an area of 35 acres, the Eden Project is the imaginative recreation of Mr. Tim Smit. It has highly acclaimed geodesic domes – inflated panels of triangles, hexagons, and pentagons made into 300 ft domes. The domes have a wide variety of plants and trees, and it helps in recreating environmental conditions of the Mediterranean and rainforests. Here, you get to witness a waterfall, Sulawesi white-eye birds, roul-roul partridges, and a 23-ft waste monster made of thrown out electronic and electrical equipment. The outdoor garden has more than 3,000 varieties of plants. Tickets will cost £25 for adults and £14 for kids aged between 5-16 years.   

 

Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City

When you are in England, you have the opportunity of visiting the six areas in this historic center and docklands. You will get to know how the UK developed and what changes it experienced all throughout the centuries. As per the history, this dock holds the story of the mass movement of the people, immigrants, and slaves that moved from northern Europe to America. It has also been included in the list of World Heritage Sites. During those days, Liverpool used to be the leader in the development of transport systems, port management, and modern dock technology. You can explore a wide variety of important civic, commercial, and public buildings, including St. George’s Plateau.

 

Hadrian’s Wall

Travel back in time with Hadrian’s Wall, which was built by the Roman army following the orders of Emperor Hadrian. The wall is 73 miles long and, in 1987, it was declared as a World Heritage Site. The original plan was to build a wall of stone or turf, and it took two years to complete. The region also used to serve as a custom post, levy taxation area, and a military fortification.

 

Durham Castle

If you like visiting castles, then Durham Castle will surely appeal to you. The castle is now home to the students of University College, Durham. Durham Castle, together with the Cathedral, was announced as a World Heritage Site in 1986. This helped the castle gain global recognition as a unique, scenic, and historic site. The castle was built under the guidance of the Earl of Northumberland, Waltheof, until he was executed in 1076. The castle overlooks the beautiful and medieval city of Durham, with its gorgeous narrowing streets. For visiting the castle, the ticket rates are as follows:

  • Adults £5.00 per ticket type
  • Concessions £4.00 per ticket type
  • Family day ticket £15.00 per ticket type

 

National History Museum

Witness the best of architectural beauty and a wide collection of some of the rarest antiquities of the world at the National History Museum. Here, you get to witness a collection of artifacts related to entomology, mineralogy, zoology, and paleontology. Here, under the Blue Zone, you get to explore the amazing world of the dinosaurs, huge mammals, fish, and reptiles.

The Green Zone exhibits the evolution of plants and explores different types of fossil marine reptiles, birds, minerals, and creepy crawlies. Moving towards the Red Zone, you get to uncover Earth sculptures and enjoy a chance to know more about the wonderful forces that shape our planet, such as human evolution, earth’s treasury, volcanoes, and earthquakes.

 

Madame Tussaud’s Museum

You must have heard about Madame Tussauds Museum, and your trip to England is not complete without a visit. Here you get a chance to rub your shoulders with the wax statues of some of the most famous people in history. Here, you can witness characters hailing from the movie industry, music industry, the royal family, sports, world governments, etc. You can have a picture clicked with your favorite celebrities and sports personalities, such as David Beckham.

 

Soho of London

Soho is the place to witness finger-licking food, live entertainment, and pulsating nightlife. It is a hub for all celebrations in London, and you can find plenty of quirky shops here. Soho Square is the place where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll, and the bustle of the place is worth witnessing. Here, you have a great variety of some of the swankiest restaurants and cafes, and you also get to enjoy cheap snacks.

If you love shopping, then make sure you have visited some of the popular boutiques at Kingly Court, Berwick Street, and Carnaby Street. If you are looking for some cheap deals on fashion and electronic gadgets, then check out Regent Street and Oxford Street. Do checkout the London theater scene by visiting Prince of Wales Theatre and Prince Edward Theatre.

 

Shakespeare’s Hometown

The home of the famous playwright is well-preserved and full of history. Visitors have been coming here for over 250 years, and this is the site where Shakespeare was born, grew up, and played. He also spent his first five years of married life with Ms. Anne Hathaway here.

For all Shakespeare fans, this hometown is like a shrine. You can also visit the gift shop and café. The ticket rates are as follows:
