Costa Rica isn’t just a tropical, wildlife wonderland. Sure, the country possesses 4% of the world’s biodiversity and boasts some truly incredible natural attractions and phenomenons, but Costa Rica is also rich in culture and history.

Whether you’re seeking nightlife, knowledge, live music, or entertainment, Costa Rica will have something to please you.

Costa Rica is culturally diverse and steeped in tradition this Latin country will leave you spell bound. It is a colorful, exuberant culture and is shown throughout the country in dance, arts and crafts.

Folkloric dances like the Punto Guanacasteco and La Cajeta depict colorful stories of a bygone era.

Nightlife

For the country’s best night life, one must travel to San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica. With a massive variety of restaurants, bars, and dance clubs, San Jose has everything you could wish for in late-night entertainment. Here you will find true dance clubs with both Latin dancing and more modern music, hole-in-the-wall bars that are excellent for sitting down and meeting new people or people-watching, sports bars where you can root for your favorite team, and ritzy night clubs that you’ll need to dress up for.

Not planning to stay in San Jose? Don’t despair! There are plenty of other cities in Costa Rica with great nighttime activities. Jaco, Tamarindo, and Quepos (just near Manuel Antonio) all boast thriving and active nightlife attractions. Expect to drink, dance, and be merry!

Culture

Costa Rica is a country rich in culture, and to experience it fully, it’s best to visit one of the many museums in San Jose. The National Museum, the Gold Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Children’s Museum are all fantastic places to learn about Costa Rica’s histories and mysteries.

Theater

As tourism grows, you’ll find that there are more places to enjoy live performances in Costa Rica. The Teatro Nacional, or the National Theater in San Jose puts on some truly breathtaking theatrical performances, and there are several smaller theaters strewn throughout the city.

Jaco, Costa Rica has recently opened their own theater, and several traveling shows, as well as plays put on by local theatrical groups, are gracing the stage here in this coastal town.

Music

Music is everywhere to be found in Costa Rica. Whether you enjoy traditional, Latin folk songs, salsa dancing, or shaking it to modern day hip hop tunes, Costa Rica has it all. Many bars will have karaoke nights during the week, and bars and restaurants also boast live music. Dancing is a must in Costa Rica! Don’t worry if you don’t know the steps—there are many dance schools in and around San Jose that are great if you want to learn how to cut a rug, Costa Rican style.
