How to Make it Easier for Australians to Work from Home

Work remotely and embrace your freedom – that’s how technology is changing work cultures around the world. With telework and telecommuting opportunities, people can now work from anywhere they want, with more say and sway over their schedules and lives. It’s the ultimate ticket to living a life you don’t want a vacation from. With the completion of the National Broadband Network in 2020, the Australian government also aims to make these opportunities possible for more of its citizens, the  McCrindle Research says.

So if you’re planning to run a business or already have one and are looking for ways to improve productivity and your bottom line, it might be time to introduce remote work into the mix. Need a solution that works? Here are a few tips to finding a video conferencing tool that fits the bill:

Know what you need

Some systems offer limited conferencing capabilities with basic, no-frills, setups. Others come with bells and whistles. Having a firm idea of what your organization and your remote staff needs will make it easier for you to figure out what video communication system to go for.

Factor in usage

How often will you or your team use a video chat or conferencing tool? If you aren’t going to find much use for the system, then going for basic setups might be best. On the other hand, if you want daily communications with any of your remote staff – even when you go off and spend a few days at the beach, lying under the sun with Mai Tai cocktails – then going for a system with plenty of features might be a better option.

Ask for recommendations

Word-of-mouth referrals are gold. That’s why it’s a wise idea to ask around before you pick out a final system. Reach out to people you trust.  Do your research. Look up local organizations that have embraced remote setups for employees. You could learn a thing or two on how to run a successful business with remote teams.

Consider the reputation as well

Looking for a video solution? Search for providers with reputations as leaders in video solutions. It’s a safe bet that you’re going to get your money’s worth. Look for companies like BlueJeans for the best video conference service for IT in Australia. However, if you want top-of-the-line status in the field for your team, investing in this technology isn’t enough. You must find the right solutions provider as well.

List and compare

Put together a list of all prospective companies and systems. Gather all the information you need about each one and compare features of different systems. That’s an excellent way to find out what features are unique to which systems. You can even create a checklist of qualities. Make a check mark beside the name of the video communication system for every winning quality they possess. Once the dust settles, you’ll be able to pretty much tell with a glance which options are better for staying in touch with your remote team, wherever in the country or world you all happen to be.

Connectivity features

Video conferencing should help you reach out to clients or stay in touch with the rest of your team, no matter the location and distance, says Cisco Blogs. That means going for features that make this possible, like HD screens. Blurriness can derail the experience and hurt more than help your reputation and service. With clear or high resolution cameras and screens, reaching out to a client about a promotional offer or calling your teammate for a project revision or update is easy, stress-free, and all kinds of convenient.

Test the system

When you’re buying a car, you don’t usually buy it sight unseen. Instead, you go for a test drive. The same idea applies to buying a video communication solution. You can’t pluck it out of thin air and decide it’s the best one for your remote team and business right there and then. You need to test it, or have your employees test it, especially if they’re going to end up using the system much more frequently than you would. Was it easy to use? Do you think your staff will adapt to the system soon and with great ease? Those are all important questions to ask and could help you decide which systems are ultimately worth going for.

Conclusion

Video conferencing can make a major difference in running your organization. So be wise about choosing the system that works best for your business model. By introducing remote opportunities to your employees, you might just find the ticket to getting happier employees, better ROI, and a life you don’t want a vacation from. If you want to start enjoying the freedom of working and living from anywhere in the world, choosing the right system can take you one step closer to that dream.
