5 Romantic Getaways for Valentine’s Day 2018

Looking to do something different this Valentine’s Day? Treat your special someone to a romantic weekend abroad! Valentine’s Day falls in the middle of the week in 2018, but that doesn’t mean you can’t surprise your Valentine with a spur of the moment weekend trip. If you’re thinking along these lines, you might like to know that these five places are just perfect for impressing your date this year.

Paris

Everyone knows Paris is the city of love, so of course it’s only fitting that it is first on the list. One of the top Valentine’s Day attractions in Paris is the romantic river cruise on the Seine. You can sip champagne, take in a spectacular view of the city, and enjoy a classic French three-course dinner. You can book a tour for this that will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back after.

Some other Parisian attractions for this holiday include dinner and a show at Moulin Rouge and dinner at the Michelin Star restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. The Musée Rodin is a romantic garden in Paris that celebrates the romantic sculptor, Rodin, and it is open for extended hours on Valentine’s Day for a walkthrough. Don’t forget museums, too! There is even a multitude of chocolate shops, gourmet food shops, and even perfumes all over the city. There’s just so much to do in Paris for this special holiday.

Colombia

If you’re looking to stay a bit closer to home, perhaps even on a stricter budget, you might be surprised to learn that Colombia has a lot of great options as well. Its most famous Valentine’s destination is The Walled City of Cartagena. This is Colombia’s most iconic Caribbean city. It boasts cobblestone streets, colorful flowers along the walkways, colonial architecture, and a plethora of fancy restaurants. There are churches and museums to explore, and the hotels are quaint and boutique rather than large corporate ones. That sounds pretty romantic, right?

The Tayrona Park EcoHabs offer another appealing option for Colombia. These are small, thatched roof huts perched on the cliffs of the jungle overlooking the beaches of the Caribbean in Tayrona National Park. If you want to spend your romantic holiday on the beach, the EcoHabs are a must. They come with private terraces overlooking the water, and a full day of beach, spa treatments, and seafood dinners could really hit the spot.

Italy

Italy is another highly popular romantic destination for travelers. Pretty much anything on the Amalfi Coast is sure to please, but some areas might be even more perfect than others. Take Positano, for example. This is a seaside village made up of colorful splashes of homes and buildings nestled on the cliffside, overlooking the pristine beaches. Other fishing villages along the coast are similar to this one, offering terraced vineyards and cliffside lemon groves for romantic escapes. In Positano, the buildings and landscape look just as they did a century ago, since they hold strict building codes that keep modern buildings out. There may not be much to do other than take in the scenes, spend time on the beach, eat, and browse the boutiques – but anything on the Amalfi Coast will offer a nice, quiet, relaxing, and romantic getaway for you and your loved one.

Seville

While Spain, and basically anywhere on the Mediterranean, is a good place to go for a romantic trip, Seville is a city that sticks out. It’s located about an hour from the coast, so even if you plan your trip to the Costa del Sol (you could stay in Malaga, Europe’s sunniest city) to soak in some sun and enjoy the mountain views, you can make a trip over to Seville to take in stunning architecture and enjoy the historical element this city has to offer. You can tour the Royal Palace of Seville, the Seville Cathedral (the largest gothic cathedral in the world), and the Plaza de Espana. You can also enjoy all the wine and tapas you desire, and that goes for anywhere in Spain!

Maldives

Getting to the secluded Maldives archipelago is a lengthy trip, but it’s more than worth the time if you can swing it. Said to be one of the most romantic places in the entire world, these islands in the Indian Ocean provide the perfect spot to get away from your everyday stressors and simply unwind with your special someone. You can enjoy endless amounts of aquatic activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and sailing the lagoon. You’ll have access to traditional wooden boats and spa treatments, and you can even stay in your own cabana over the water. Add top-notch cuisine from around the world, and you’ll find yourself in paradise.
