Panama is the only place in the world where you can surf good waves in two oceans on the same day. Both the Caribbean and Pacific sides of Panama have year round good weather and it’s not a far drive to the various surf beaches to find the perfect wave.

The uninhabited Coiba National Park (Nacional Parque Coiba) is 80% ocean and contains the largest coral reef in the eastern Pacific. The park is made up of 38 islands 30 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama in the Chiriqui Bay, including Coiba Island, the largest island in Central America with 503 square kilometers (194 square miles).

AquaBounty Technologies, a U.S. biotech company, has created a “Super Salmon” they call AquAdvantage Salmon by inserting genetic material from Chinook salmon and the eel-like species Ocean Pout into salmon eggs. The result is a genetically modified (GM) fish that is entirely female, sterile, and grows at twice the rate of a typical salmon by producing growth hormone year-round. They have been trying to get it into the food supply since 1995.
