(Caters)<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-195 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.escapeartist.com\/vanuatu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2014\/08\/028612b0-cb9a-11e3-b1f8-5bbbb1d58496_Underwater_Post_box_.jpg\" alt=\"Underwater Post box\" width=\"630\" height=\"644\" \/><\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Stunning pictures capture the incredible sight of the world\u2019s first underwater post office where tourists can post their letters under the waves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Visitors grab a mask, fins and snorkel and dive below the surface of the sea to visit the incredible\u00a0<i>Vanuatu<\/i>\u00a0Post service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">The underwater post office is situated off the coast of Hideaway Island,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Vanuatu<\/span>\u00a0in three meters of crystal clear water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">The box is fifty meters from shore and completely submerged in the South Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Close to the beach \u2013 the post box is designed for swimmers and snorkelers to post special waterproof postcards to their friends and family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">The post office was made from a large fiberglass water tank and sets a stunning scene on the ocean bed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Mike Crawford, a dive manager at Hideaway Island, created the unique post-box.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-194 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.escapeartist.com\/vanuatu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2014\/08\/6b2f3ea0-cb99-11e3-aa95-150d9738533f_Underwater_Post_box_01.jpg\" alt=\"Underwater Post box 01\" width=\"630\" height=\"821\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"yom-fig-frame\"><span id=\"schemaorg\"><span class=\"yom-figure yom-fig-middle\"><span class=\"legend\" style=\"color: #414141;\">Capture the incredible sight of the worlds first underwater post office (Caters)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p>The 68-year-old said: \u2018The idea for the project came from one of the resort owners and the local postmaster having a few red wines in a local cafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was made from a large fiberglass water tank and a gable roof was added and holes cut for a counter on one side and an entrance on the other.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It had all the logos attached including sponsors and was then secured by chains to rocks underwater.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Originally we taught four post office workers to dive \u2013 however this became too difficult to organize, so the resorts instructors and dive master took over the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A post box was placed next to the tank so that snorkelers or divers could post their own postcards which were specially treated to be waterproof, and collected daily by the dive masters.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"provider org\" style=\"font-style: italic; color: #7d7d7d;\">Yahoo News<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic; color: #7d7d7d;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Vanuatu\u00a0Post service is located off the coast of Hideaway Island in three meters of crystal clear water.The post office is situated off the coast of Hideaway Island,\u00a0Vanuatu\u00a0in crystal clear water.
