Italy is one of the top destinations on my bucket list. Before booking my flight, however, it’s important make sure I’m not missing out on some of the famous attractions this country has to offer.

So, after some research, I will share with you some of the greatest destinations when traveling abroad to Italy.

1 – Venice

If you want to go something romantic and elegant, Venice is the best place to be, with its famous Grand Canal. It would be best for you to go to this site with your partner or family in February. Speaking of the love month, you might want to check out the Carnival which is held every 11th to 28th of February. It is one place that you won’t regret spending time in and creating beautiful memories.

2 – Florence

Another place that you shouldn’t miss when you book your flight to Italy is Florence. The reason why Florence catches the attention of tourists is its remarkable art and architecture around every corner. There will be long queues for churches and museums, except in January, when the city is quietest.

3 – Matera

Due to its Unesco World Heritage status, Matera is a must-visit location. You can see fascinating grottos, rock churches, and a town of caves. It is perfect for locals who want to take a break away from the city to explore this famous place.

4 – Puglia

All I can say is that Puglia cannot be underestimated. Do you want to know the reason why this region is so high on my list? It is because Puglia is known for its traditional-type manor houses coming from Masseria hotels and Trulli houses. However, the long coastline of Puglia is breathtaking, due to its fascinating view. On top of that, you can pick lots of ripened strawberries in May. From the coastline, you can see the city of Leece and the ancient historical ports of Brindisi and Bari.

5 – Tuscany

Tuscany is known for its famous and majestic landscapes, excellent cuisine, fine art and architecture, and a lot more. On top of that, you’ll experience a perfect climate if you visit Tuscany in October. You can enjoy celebrating a feast during autumn, as the townspeople gather figs, grapes, pumpkins, olives, and more to pay homage to the land.

6 – Taormina

If you want to experience a breathtaking panoramic view of the Italian Sea or Mount Etna, you should check out Taormina. This place is perfect for those who want to take a weekend break, especially if it’s in March. There are fantastic hotels you can find in Taormina that could be worthy of your time.

7 – Rome

Although there are tons of reasons why you should go to Rome, I would like to mention a few that are truly worth it. In Rome, you can visit the famous St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and a lot more. At any time of the year, Rome has its one-of-a-kind appeal to both locals and foreign tourists. Rome is also quite atmospheric during Christmas season.

8 – The Veneto

In the Veneto, two of its famous attractions are Venice and Verona. However, you can enjoy so much more in this region. If you want to take some weekend breaks, Vicenza and Padua are outstanding. Both of them are beautiful towns, with the Brenta Canal and grand villas that belonged to the wealthiest families in the region.

9 – Umbria

If you want to see the quaint hill towns like Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto, Spello, and Spoleto, as well as the Apennines’ wooded foothills, Umbria is the place for you to visit. It was known to be a great rival of Tuscany regarding its beauty, especially the "Consumersunflowers in the countryside. The best month for you to visit is in June, because the hotel and villa rates are cheap and affordable.

10 – Capri

The lovely island of Capri cannot be denied as one of the top tourist destinations in Italy. Frequented by Emperor Tiberius, and now by thousands of tourists every year, Capri is one of the most beautiful patches of paradise in Italy.
