Have you been looking for the perfect place to lie on the beach and drink free-flowing margaritas? Do you enjoy the warm, calm waters of the Caribbean? St. Kitts and Nevis may just have what you are looking for.

This peaceful country consists of two Caribbean islands, St. Kitts and Nevis. If you want to escape your busy daily life for a while, or even spend your retirement years, in a peaceful environment on the sea, this is the place for you.

What makes St. Kitts and Nevis different than other Central American destinations? The exquisite beaches with BLACK SAND! St. Kitts even has three volcanoes, the tallest being Mount Liamuiga. The island is covered with rainforest where you can see vervet monkeys and wild orchids.

St. Kitts

Brimstone Hill Fortress

This is undoubtedly the most well-known national park in St. Kitts and Nevis. The fortress on Brimstone is the perfect example of the colonial era military construction. The original use of the fortress was a cannon battery, used to get rid of the French who controlled Fort Charles to the east. The structure grew for years afterwards, becoming one of the largest in the region.

Now, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fortress offers a look into the past as an engineering project undertaken by colonial powers that used African slaves in the Caribbean.

You can explore the palisades, witness battle reenactments, and enjoy the picturesque views the island has to offer.

Cockleshell Bay

This is one of the most popular beaches on St. Kitts. It’s located on the southern tip of the island, which means you get an awesome view of Nevis. The white sand beach stretches for 2 miles. Walk along the jewel-toned waters and stop at the small beach bars and seafood restaurants in between lying in the sun.

Frigate Bay

Frigate Bay hums with life, day and night. The beach is located right next to St. Kitt’s best nightlife, shopping, and hotels. The area consists of two beaches, one of which faces the Atlantic Ocean and claims to have the best views and sand on the island. There are even sea grapes to pick and coconut palms. South Frigate Bay, on the Caribbean, is the center of the restaurant and bar scene. Both beaches offer great swimming.

Royal St. Kitts Golf Club

For the golfers out there, this par-71 golf course has 10 water hazards, 80 bunkers, and stretches over 125 acres overlooking the sea. Many travelers note that the views are amazing and the well kept course is challenging. It’s located on the St. Kitts Marriott Resort in Basseterre. The cost for 18 holes is around $165, with discounts available for hotel guests.

St. Kitts Scenic Railway

Originally built in the early 1900s to transport sugar from the fields to Basseterre, the capital, the train is now one of the most scenic tours the country has to offer. The train takes passengers through miles of mountains on a journey of a lifetime. The double-decker cars offer a 360-degree view of the mesmerizing sea, cliffs, and healthy vegetation. Along the way, you will learn about sugar cane estates and see small villages and farms.

You will also enjoy complimentary drinks like rum punch, soda, and daiquiris on the three-hour ride.

Mount Liamuiga

The 1,156 meter high mountain in the heart of the island is one of the most appealing features of St. Kitts. Misty rainforests and a tropical savannah are accessible by the many hiking trails, most of which travel from the Belmont Estate to the crater rim at the very top.

Nevis

Oualie Beach

Oualie (pronounced wah-lee) Beach is your destination for flowing margaritas and delicious food. The hammocks and chairs are free to use as long as you are purchasing food or drink. The clear waters also make for great snorkeling.

The sand on the island is soft compared to the other, sometimes rocky, beaches on the islands. The beach is easy to reach from St. Kitts via water taxi.

Pinney’s Beach

The saffron-colored sands on Pinney Beach has the whole island talking. This beach is on the west edge of Nevis, often featured on many of the country’s travel publications. Visitors say that the beach lives up to all the hype.

Museum of Nevis History

The two-story Georgia-style home in Charleston was the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton in 1757, who lived on Nevis until he was nine years old. Today, the building is now known as the Hamilton House. The first floor is one of the island’s two museums. The second is where the Nevis House of Assembly holds its meetings.
