Hello readers,

That’s what we’re here for! This week, we just want to remind you that Escape Artist is the number-one destination for all of your expat questions. Feel free to explore our website and drop in to ask a question. We love when you ask questions!

We officially have a venue! The 2018 Escape Artist Conference will be located at the MCM Elegante Hotel in Dallas. Details can be found below.

Top Expat Destinations Ranked

Are you ready for a move abroad? We think you are! If you need help deciding where you want to go, maybe this list (put together by HSBC) can help you out! While forging your own journey is a great idea, maybe take a lesson from expats who are living a life away from their home countries.

This list was constructed using the results of a survey completed by 22,000 expat professionals from 163 countries. The rankings are determined by high scores in the categories of salary, education, and job opportunity. Below are the results for the top 10 nations for expats:

  1. Singapore
  2. New Zealand
  3. Germany
  4. Canada
  5. Bahrain
  6. Australia
  7. Sweden
  8. Switzerland
  9. Taiwan
  10. United Arab Emirates

What’s More Important?

Last week, we reported on the survey that found which countries are the best in terms of job satisfaction, family life, and making friends. Surveys of this kind happen all the time, each finding something new. In the survey mentioned above, Singapore ranked first in terms of higher salary, better education, and work opportunities.

Interestingly enough, Singapore was only number six on a survey, also conducted by the same organization, that ranked nations in terms of quality of life.

It’s important to understand what you find important when you move abroad. Is it the quality of life, how happy your family will be, or how much money you will be able to make? If you need assistance answering these questions, Escape Artist can help! We even have a survey you can fill out to help you find out what’s important in your big move.

The Japanese passport has just been announced as the most powerful passport around the globe by the Henley Index. The Henley Index is a global ranking based on the travel freedom that citizens of each country have.

Japan has always been near the top of this list, as their citizens are free to go just about anywhere in the world without a hassle, making the Japanese passport a highly desired possession for travelers and investors alike.

That is to say, a passport from Japan gives you the most…

Powerful Passports Around The World

In this article, we’ll look at the most powerful passports around the world. If you’re looking for a top-tier second passport, this will be a must-read. This article will also help you to value those second passports that are within your reach and your budget.

The way we value a second passport and how we determine the most powerful passports around the world is simple enough. The more countries a passport gives you visa-free access to, the more valuable it is. The most powerful passports all give you access to 180+ countries and territories.

I should also point out that Americans value (or more properly put, utilize) a second passport differently than those from countries such as China and India. We Americans already have a…

Hardest Countries to Get a Visa From

As part of the ongoing “Getting Residency In” collection of articles, I have detailed a number of countries that have an easy-going and relaxed immigration system. Some are stricter than others, but for the most part there is nothing too concrete stopping the process. In this post, we’ll look at the other side of the coin – the hardest countries to get a visa from.

Sure, Australia might have a difficult test, and Brazil might have a long waiting period, but there is nothing that prevents you as an American from obtaining a visa from these countries. Just your time, money, and will. You need to be especially prepared, however, when dealing with one of the hardest countries to get a visa from.

Editor’s Note: If you don’t have the patience for one of these the hardest countries to get a visa from, then look to…

Getting Residency in Brazil

South America is one of the last remaining unknown treasures in the world. Of course everybody knows about Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Bogota, but there is a lot to explore in this vast and green continent.

In my opinion, the best adventures start in Panama and go south. Medellin, Colombia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Quito, Ecuador; and Santiago, Chile (Chilecon Valley). All of these cities are vibrant with a lot to offer the American expat.

The biggest country in South America, Brazil, has seen a major bump in tourism as of late and is expected to continue growing substantially.

Brazil has also been attracting a lot of…
