Not Your Average Northern Lights

Have you ever witnessed the beauty of the Northern Lights? If not, 2019 is your year to cross that off of your bucket list. Not only do we think you should experience the amazing light phenomenon, we think you should do so with flair.

Visitors of The Lofoten Islands in Norway experience the Northern Lights on a small island owned by jazz musician and composer, Håvard Lund. He co-owns the site named Fordypningsrommet Fleinvær, or Arctic Hideaway.

The island accommodates up to 15 people in a series of ten small houses, each with its own purpose, from cooking and sleeping to relaxing. There’s even a sauna! The tower house is where you’ll want to be to see the lights!

Visit as a regular guest or attend one of the week-long “artist-in-residence” sessions! It’s available to visit all year long, but it’s recommended to bring some warm, wool clothes ready for wind and rain.

Halong Bay: Easier Access Than Ever

Not in the mood for cold rain? What about Halong Bay, a famous Vietnamese travel destination? The new Van Don International Airport will bring visitors closer to the bay. More specifically, the new airport, located in the Quang Ninh province, is just 50 kilometers from Halong Bay.

Halong Bay has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 1994. The small islets and limestone pillars are a popular destination for cruise tours.

Van Don will be the first private international airport in the country, and it’s not the only project in place to increase tourism. Quang Ninh will also be seeing a new Halong-Van Don Highway and Halong International Cruise Port, both increasing traffic to the bay.

Follow in Beyonce’s Footsteps

In 2018, the Louvre Museum in Paris hit a record of 10.2 million visitors! Could this be thanks to Beyonce? Many believe that the release of the music video that Beyonce and husband, Jay-Z, shot at the museum contribute largely to the increase of visitors. The music video featured Louvre staples such as Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Following a terrorist attack in 2015, museum director, Jean-Luc Martinez, sees this as a sign of recovery. In 2017, visitors still only hit 8.1 million.

75% of the visitors in 2018 were foreigners. Will you be next? The Louvre Museum in Paris, France, is home to famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa, St. John the Baptist, and Venus de Milo.

Coexist in CubaConsumer Resource Guide

Beginning April 12, Cuba’s leading art event is returning. The XIII Bienal de La Habana is coming back to take over galleries, public spaces, and streets of the capital city, Havana, filling them with thought-provoking art.

The event comes after a four-year hiatus, so art lovers all around the globe are excited about the month-long display. For 36 years, the artistic event, known for the elaborate art that can be seen, such as large sculptures, unorthodox exhibitions, and public interventions, has gathered over 150 attendees from nearly 50 countries.

The 2019 rendition of the Bienal will emphasize the coexistence of human beings during challenging times and promote solidarity and tolerance.

5 Reasons Why Expats Looking to Invest Should Hire an Investment Manager

Most people around the world with a fair amount of money in the bank are always on the lookout for the best opportunities to increase their wealth, especially the expatriate bunch looking to enter different markets around the world. For most expats, investment is the best option to turn the thousands of today into millions of tomorrow in your bank account. However, the investment practice is not an easy business and is certainly not for everyone – and there are a great number of reasons for this. An expat may not draw a complete idea regarding a foreign market and may not anticipate and deduce key facts on their own. Many expats put forth a…

Moving to Mexico: Chapter 25

Much to the dissatisfaction of my employer, I am taking all of next week off. Actually, it’s just three days, as we already have the 25th and 26th off. As I am a newer team member, I have not yet been truly “hired.”  This company, like many, tries to avoid giving a job and benefits to someone who may just disappear after a month or so. I guess they have had that problem a lot, and I can understand why. The work is difficult and dangerous. It does not pay well, either, so I can see how they have had a high turnover.  The time I would be taking off is unpaid as I am not yet…

What are Opportunity Zones?

In this post, we’ll look at the new tax shelter signed by President Trump a few days ago – the opportunity zones. These opportunity zones might be the biggest tax shelter ever in the United States. Opportunity zones are incredible opportunities for those who wish to shelter capital gains.

In 2017, a tax overhaul bill was passed making a great deal of changes to the tax treatment of real estate, no surprise when you think about the real estate fortune that current President Donald Trump has amassed.

Included in that bill was the Investing in Opportunity Act. The Investing in Opportunity Act established new opportunity zone programs that consisted…
