Saving
Australian Wildlife - Reintroducing
Native Species Down Under - Volunteers Help Group Fight for Forgotten Animals
in Mallee Country - The first of their unique sanctuaries, Warrawong,
in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia is now well-established and is
setting the standard for sanctuaries elsewhere in the country. It is one
of the few places in Australia where you can see the duck-billed platypus
living and breeding in its native habitat. Even for a born and bred Australian,
this is a thrill--so few have seen them in their natural state. There are
also wallabies, bandicoots, woylies, bilbies, as well as native fish and
birds thriving in the place.
Short-Term
Work Resources - Resources
for locating Summer Jobs & Short Term Employment Abroad - The major
fields of temporary employment abroad are tourism and agriculture (casual
and seasonal work), au pairing (almost exclusively for women), English
teaching (difficult for periods of less than nine months), and volunteer
work in exchange for room and board. Article by Susan Griffith includes
a very large list of contacts for Short-Term work around the world.
Teaching
in China - Do
It Yourself: The Steps to Finding a Job As a Foreign Teacher - So how
do you find a job? If you're not eligible for a university exchange program
and you're unwilling to pay the fee for an independent sending organization,
you can go on your own. But apply early: While some positions are still
open as late as July or August, try to make contact by March. (Occasionally,
positions are open for the second semester, too, which begins in February.)
Unspoiled,
Unvisited Laos - Resources
& Conditions For Exploring Laos - Wandering on your own can still
be difficult in Laos because of the scarcity of roads and unpredictable
accommodations. But even the well-worn tourist tracks are worth the trip.
Most travelers I met had a 15-day tourist visa. This is enough for a trip
through the north from Ventiane to the northern border regions or the southern
strip from Ventiane to Pakse, but probably not both. |

A Guide to
Living in Berlin - Work
is Plentiful in This Vibrant City - German business needs global markets
and alliances, so there is a massive need for English language speakers,
particularly as teachers. Hordes of schools in Berlin offer everything
from evening courses to intensive, industry-specific business English.
The best way to find this work is to check the yellow pages under Sprachenschule
and send off resumes. The schools will generally demand either experience
or completion of a training course or both.
