Sir Karl Popper

"In order to be a self, much has to be learnt; especially a sense of time, with oneself extended into the past (at least into the 'yesterday') and into the future (at least into the 'tomorrow'.) But this involves theory; at least in it's rudimentary form as an expectation: there is no self without a theoretical orientation, both in some primitive space and some primitive time. So self is, partly, the result of the active exploration of the environment, and of the grasp of a temporal routine, based upon the cycle of day and night."    - -  Sir Karl Popper
