Living
overseas is not a daunting task; as a matter of fact it is much easier
to do than you might expect, and a heck of a lot of fun.
You'll meet new friends, learn about another culture, you may even learn
another language. You'll certainly save money, especially if you
pick a nation that has a lower cost of living, and you'll avoid the crime
and disrespect that has become a sad feature of life today inside the USA
and UK. - Do I know what I'm talking about? I'm 70 years old, I own
this website, I moved overseas in 1996 and I've been living overseas ever
since. With the internet and other forms of international communications
you are never out of touch unless you want to be. You can watch news,
sports, entertainment from almost anywhere in the world. The internet is
ubiquitous, allowing you to see culture as a global phenomena, and not
something nation-specific. With the new forms of telephones, such as Skype,
and Vonage, you can have a US phone number no matter where you live overseas,
keeping in touch with friends and relatives globally is now an instantaneous
daily event. Living Overseas, especially as a retiree makes more sense
then ever; lower cost for health-care, less crime, better ambiance, lower-prices,
greater freedom, and the respect that comes from living in nations that
respect your privacy. - See Recent Articles on Retiring Overseas - -

Retirement
Without Borders: How to Retire Abroad--in Mexico, France, Italy, Spain,
Costa Rica, Panama, and Other Sunny, Foreign Places (And the Secret to
Making It Happen Without Stress). Golson and his
wife, experienced part-time and full-time expatriates, provide a fascinating
road map for retirement planning outside the U.S. This book targets the
76 million baby boomers reaching age 65 in 2010 who may be intrigued by
the idea of seeking another culture for retirement that offers many possibilities
for new interests and friendships. The authors provide in-depth evaluation
of 10 countries (plus brief information on others) emphasizing both positive
and negative aspects of living there plus commentary by Americans who reside
in each country. Finances are a major issue, and there are opportunities
for those with modest budgets as well as larger incomes. Missing family
and friends in the U.S. is the major downside to living abroad, but the
benefits include a sense of adventure, lower cost of living in some instances,
climate, and greater freedom. An excellent, valuable resource for library
patrons who are seriously considering offshore retirement as well as those
who may be dreaming about it. - Retirement

Getting
Out: Your Guide to Leaving America WTaking a decidedly
pessimistic view of the current American moment, Ehrman's well-designed,
all-encompassing guidebook provides detailed instructions for fleeing "before
America comes crashing down upon you." Ehrman includes a large number of
first-person stories from folks who did just that, starting new lives in
China, Australia, Slovakia and Israel, among other destinations. The majority
of these voices come from 20 to 30-year-olds, and some of the advice here
skews to a younger sensibility, listing, for example, how each country
prosecutes pot possession. However, there is valuable and comprehensive
information here for a wide range of readers, including a globe-spanning
country-by-country guide on how to immigrate-including Old Europe standbys
as well as a number of countries in Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe-with
helpful sections on visa and residency requirements, acclimating to foreign
culture and how to earn a living, as well as a handy list of online resources.
Though the negative tone of the book might prove off-putting for readers
planning an overseas move for reasons unrelated to politics, the wealth
of information it carries-as well as its wide range of expatriate perspectives-will
prove valuable. Illustrations.- Getting

How
to Retire Overseas: Everything You Need to Know to Live Well (for Less)
Abroad. Whether motivated by a desire for adventure,
or the need to make the most of a diminished nest egg, more and more Americans
are considering an overseas retirement. Drawing on her more than three
decades of experience helping people relocate happily and successfully,
Kathleen Peddicord shows how living in an unconventional retirement destination
can cost less than a traditional home in Florida or Arizona. Peddicord
addresses all of the essential issues. Retirement is Over in the US - This
book is helpful in its information as well as making Americans realize
that the concept of retirement in the United States was a short term phenomena
in American history that is finished. And it's been over for some time.
But even if Americans could retire in the US, living overseas can be much
more interesting for some. But the positive is, we have a large and varied
world to experience. Often, at the fraction of the cost of retiring in
the US. The quality of life can be much higher also. One of the sections
lists the top retirement countries according to author Kathleen Peddicord.
Interestingly some of these (European) countries are expensive and may
have prohibitive or difficult visa retirement regulations. I am surprised
that any European nation is included at all, because Americans that can
retire in Europe could also retire in the US in my opinion. "How to Retire
Overseas" seems to target the American citizens that have not traveled
abroad for more than 2 weeks, nor have lived overseas as an expat. The
recent economic downturn (which will last for years) is now causing many
to contemplate retiring overseas and this is definitely worth considering.

The
Financial Guide to Retiring Abroad: How to Retire Overseas, Avoid Tax,
Invest Wisely, and Save Your Money. Are you thinking
about retiring overseas, but can't find a book that goes into great detail
about the financial aspects of such a move? The Financial Guide to Retiring
Abroad was written specifically for you. Retiring abroad can be difficult.
You'll need to buy health insurance, open new bank accounts, and apply
for special retirement visas. All of these things require research and
effort. This book aims to help guide a would-be retiree in overcoming many
of the pitfalls that can challenge a successful retirement abroad. At the
end of the day, for most people retiring overseas is about money. You do
it because you want to maintain or improve your standard of living. In
order to maximize your savings and your pension, you may move to a poorer
country in Asia, Latin America, maybe even Africa. This book will advise
you on the wisest course of action, how to invest properly so you avoid
getting caught up in local risky ventures, and how to make sure the country
you are moving to is both economically and politically stable. What about
buying property? This will be the biggest temptation you will face in your
move abroad. This guide has an in-depth discussion on the wisdom of such
a purpose, and whether it really is as promising an "investment" as you've
been told. No matter in what country you decide to spend your retirement,
this book is for you. Whether you want to move to the beautiful farmland
of rural France, or are budget-minded and want a sophisticated urban setting
in downtown Buenos Aires, The Financial Guide to Retiring Abroad was written
with you in mind. Don't retire overseas without reading it! - The

Two
things have ushered us into a world without borders... the end of the cold
war and the advent of the world wide web of global communications &
commerce. Today it doesn't make a great deal of
difference where in the world we are located, we can carry on some types
of commerce from anywhere; from an island in the middle of the Caribbean
to a sheep ranch in the the Australian outback. A game of global musical
chairs has begun, and we are now changing places with people willing to
go to America or the UK to work for a wage we no longer consider attractive,
while we begin to move further afield in search of greener pastures. Many
of us are now looking for what might be called a 'life.' Tomorrow, it will
make a great deal of difference where we live. But certainly not in the
same sense as we now perceive it. Tomorrow we will live where the best
real estate exists, where the least crime and repression exists, where
population pressures have not decimated the environment and where business
is encouraged and not hindered by legislation. We will live there regardless
of that place's global location or its former political posture.

the astounding property bargains to be found; farmland, vineyards, a pied

houses complete with swimming pools and acres of land.
