A taxi driver once told me that he had a client from France who spent two month in Panama just
photographing the balconies of Casco Viejo. No set of balconies is like another, each house has it's
own special soul, history and charm. I looked for and did not find a book on the balconies. If the
taxi drivers French friend did anything with the photographs beyond keep them for himself we
cannot know. Note the palm tree in the distance. The area is filled with Royal Palms, one of the
most magnificent members of the palm family. The average temperature in Panama City is in the
80's. It is seldom too humid, and seldom too hot. It rains frequently in the rainy season. The climate
is very pleasant. Perhaps this is due to Panama's unique location and the narrowness of the
isthmus. To live here would be a unique pleasure.
