| "Whereas the tourist generally
hurries back home at the end of a few weeks or months, the traveller, belonging
no more to one place than to the next, moves slowly, over periods of years,
from one part of the earth to another. Indeed, he would have found it difficult
to tell, among the many places he had lived, precisely where it was he
had felt most at home."

39,000 Reasons Not To Live In The USA - What
You Don't See When You Live In America - Roger Gallo
is back with more of the different. Contrarian advice to Americans
stranded in America. Just when you thought it was safe to live in America
again, Gallo reveals that you are not seeing it straight. When you
live in backwards-land you have to remember to turn around... the
subliminal is everywhere... you live at the whim of people whose
power does not derive from your own consent, and who regard you as expendable,
disposable. The fact is, neither black nor white are true colors,
...but then neither is gray. |
| Tertullian,
[150 AD] claimed that among the delights of Heaven, would be the contemplation
of the tortures of the damned. Uh oh, Roger Gallo is back... with
another article bound to alienate just about everyone... Warning:
The article includes grapic views of hell as well as numerous multi-syllable
words. |

And Now: 15 Months in Ireland - Take
Count - Lori
Alexander's first article appeared in the pages of Escape from America
Magazine in October 2001. This is the third in her series of articles about
moving-to, settling-in, getting-accustomed-to, living abroad in the not-so-magical,
but down-to-earth country of Ire. In this article, Lori surfaces the apparent,
but real contrasts between americanisms and worldlyisms, or, let's be specific:
Irelandisms. As in Ireland. It's different. Every country is different.
It's a wonderful world.
The
Pros and Cons of Owning in Paris - s'il
vous plaît - Glenn
Cooper has been living in Paris for the past 10 years. His Paris based
apartment rental agency, works closely with their US affiliate to provide
visitors to Paris with a number of well located furnished apartments in
the heart of Paris. Glenn writes about the Paris real estate market from
properties to prices, and then tells how to go about your purchase step
by step. Wait a minute. Maybe you don't want to purchase. Great deals there,
too.
Roatan
Revisited - Living
On The Island Of Roatan - Roatan - is an island of pristine
beaches, lush jungle covered hills, welcoming people, unique cultures,
world renowned diving and an endless array of activities. It is Caribbean
and it is inexpensive Caribbean. The island of Roatan, the most developed
of the Bay Islands Archipelago, is located only 40 miles northeast of mainland
Honduras. Lyle Burke and his family lived on Roatan, where he was
inspired to start Tropical Pathways Tours, a tour company that brings wantabe
expats to the prime destinations and provides expert advice.
Surströmming
in Northern Sweden - Yuck!
YUCK!!!! - Andreas Grundtvig went to Sweden and discovered
the culinary practice of eating fermented fish, the stink from which will
hopefully stay in that part of the world thanks to the Coriolis Effect
and Wegner's Theory of Plate Tectonics. Grundtvig writes, "On
a sunny balcony in soaring temperatures of 15ºC, my hosts take the
tins to the bottom of the garden. Trying to protect their noses with their
shoulders, they carefully open them. They try hard not to inhale as the
pressurized stink emanates from a suspect, murky brown liquid. The smell
is so overpowering, I wonder if somebody nearby has a very bad stomach
problem and should make a quick exit to the crapper, or leave altogether."
All
Over Belize in Boats, Planes, and Golf Carts - Getting
Around Without a Car - Keith
and Erin are travellers who are taking a couple of years to see the world.
This is the first of many articles that will chronical a their journey
from beginning to end. In Belize, they discovered a new and different way
to travel. Keith writes, "As Americans, we are all about cars. Everyone
has one, sometimes two or three, and we use them to go anywhere, even it's
just around the corner to get a cup of coffee. The same cannot be said
for the country of Belize." In the ten days they spent in Belize, they
succeeded in shedding their all-American dependency on the automobile by
relying on just about every other kind of transportation imaginable.
The
Universal Language: Teaching ESL in a Czech Cat House - MeeeOW
-D.A. Blyler is an ESL instructor. He has taught English
as a second language in many places around the world. He wrote this article
during his tenure as a faculty member at the University of West Bohemia
in the Czech Republic. The story takes place at an upscale brothel in Plzen.
Blyler writes, "The girls were quick learners, and by the end of a month,
they had mastered most of their lessons. Steffi thought that two classes
a week would be sufficient, but also offered me another job as a limited
partner. For every client I steered or brought to the club, she would give
me half of her 50 percent take. I took her up on the offer. She handed
me 100 Steffi's Club business cards, and I went to work."

The
Undiscovered "Pearl of the South China Sea" - Labuan
- Brad Fields is a top financial consultant with Opportunities
Abroad which has dedicated itself to years of intense review of top international
tax havens, privacy tactics, luxurious lifestyle destinations, offshore
banking laws, overseas real estate bargains - practically every international
opportunity available. Brad writes, "Labuan is an offshore tax haven you
probably don't know much about. This is a significant advantage since keeping
a low profile is an integral part of privacy, after all. Just how "secret"
are you if you conduct your banking or business transactions in such well-known
jurisdictions as Switzerland or the Cayman Islands? If privacy weren't
high on your list of financial criteria, you wouldn't be interesting in
going offshore in the first place."
Short
Term Trading - Stack
'em High - Gordon Corp is a successful short-term
trader/manager who has traded for over 15 years. He has tested and scrutinized
100's of trading systems. Corp writes, "All it takes is a little education,
a little testing, a little knowledge, and a little experience, and you
can make this system work for you in a down market. The NASDAQ 100 E-mini
is valued at US$20.00 per point. Margin requirements are very low; typically
US$3000 - US$4000 are required to trade one contract. Ten points per day
equates to US$200.00 profit per contract."
US
Tax Information Exchange Agreement with Antigua and Barbuda ~ Another Tax
Haven Falls and the Poverty Gap Widens - Monroe
What? - On December 6, 2001, the governments of the United
States and Antigua and Barbuda signed an agreement for the exchange of
information with respect to taxes. In effect, the Antigua and Barbuda government
will now serve as an enforcement arm of the US Internal Revenue Service,
applying US tax law to US citizens with business there. The agreement will
also restrict the economic growth of that tiny island nation. Is it a blueprint
for the future of tax havens and some developing countries?

Isla Solarte . . . . Living
In The Bocas Del Toro Archipelago - The most popular
place in Panama is Bocas Del Toro - and with good reason. There is more
to do in Bocas Del Toro than anywhere in Central America and the Caribbean
combined. It is the Caribbean, the lowest priced real estate in the
Caribbean, it is Panama, and Bocas is just an hour from the high-tech international
banking center of Panama City, and minutes from the European ambiance of
San Jose, Costa Rica. (In fact it's only minutes by water ferry to Costa
Rica,) and it's sailing, diving and surfing is world renown. |
