make things interesting. You have to plot how to get from here to there after you figure out where there is. And that means learning how to use Europe's oldest subway system, the Métro. You need to make a phone call, but first you must find out where to buy phone cards, and then where to use them. Where is the laundromat and how do you use it once you get there?
You'd Better Belize It's Better - Click Here - Tim Sheppard and his wife Yumiko took a trip to Belize and ended up buying property there.  Tim says, "I have been looking for my own personal spot in the sun for several years.  The US is too crowded, expensive, and I’m tired of all the damn rules.  I’ve been searching Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua for that great deal.  I’ve been disappointed as I searched from Tela to Trujillo, and from San Juan del Sur to Blue Fields and Isla de Maiz.  Unfortunately, too many people saw “gringo” and thought that meant “mucho greenbacks.”  I love the countries and culture, but the prices have just been too high.  I was surprised that Belize, undoubtedly the most expensive Central American country for day-to-day stuff, had the best deals I’ve found on land."
Down on the Farm - Homesteading In Japan - Click Here - Homesteading in Japan?  If not, why not?  The author of of this article, David Markle is a 17 year resident of Japan. "...some local governments will actually pay you to live in their village. I am not kidding. Granted it is not enough to get rich on, but, believe it or not many localities are falling all over themselves to recruit families especially with younger children, to move to their town. They are offering all sorts of incentives and assistance to try to “revitalize” the countryside."
Living On A Greek Island - Not a Greek Myth - Click Here - by Terry Lichtenstein  "Once in Greece, all five senses are stretched to their limit.  It’s something you want to experience again and again.  It’s something you wish for everyday, consciously and subconsciously.  It’s a feeling you never forget, and you never want to.  It’s something that motivates you to continue to live and breathe and feel.  It’s what is Greece."
Barcelona - From The Best Of International Living - Click Here - "Barcelona is like Paris or Rome —only smaller and a fraction of the price. It’s the chicest city in Spain. All the trendy European and American designers have shops here. It’s also safe, cheap…and easy to get around. And it has some excellent,  if bizarre,  architecture. - - -  Real estate and rentals in Barcelona are surprisingly inexpensive… and a very sound investment, particularly right now, if you’re paying with dollars or sterling. Prices are relatively low because Spain is still digging itself out of General Franco’s socialist mess."
Escape To New Zealand - Click Here - "It costs less to live in New Zealand, but the wages earned are also lower. We made several trips to New Zealand in our exploration process. The second trip included our three boys and we spent 30 days camping in the North and South Island.  New Zealand is also campers' paradise.  On that trip we decided to settle in a small town called Nelson located at the top of the South Island."

Overseas Jobs
Bolivia - Destination Bolivia - Click Here - "My wife and I made ends meet by teaching in Bolivia. The natural assumption is ESL. I ,however am a university math professor and my Spanish is good enough to give classes in Spanish. My wife who is actually a nurse by profession, also gave elementary school classes in a small English speaking school. Together we could bring in about $ 1100 per month. It is very easy to live on this amount in Bolivia. As a comparison, my wife was offered a 48 hour a week nursing job at $ 120 a month. It is also possible to survive on this wage."

Sunset Over Africa Part II - Click Here - The second part of a very popular article by Andrew Crone, the first of which appeared in The Escape From America Magazine Volume Two - Issue Number Five. "A seven foot yellow brick wall surrounded the offices. Two tall palm trees and a crumbling red tiled roof were visible from behind the wall. You needed to enter through a grand cast-iron gate and follow the dirt walkway, which was defined by two rows of rocks through the dirt yard. The offices were in a yellow one story building. In front was a verandah with several tall green French doors, each leading to a different office. The paint on everything was chipped and faded."

What So Proudly We Hailed - Click Here - by Bill Bonner [From The Daily Reckoning] - We've received a lot of reader feedback about Bill's 4th of July message.  Here it is in two parts. "Today, we remember these men and the sacrifices they made. But for what? What difference did it really make? For all their suffering have our contentments been altered in any way? Did anyone's life expectancy increase as a result? Did anyone's income go up? Are we really so much better off than the citizens of Britain? Or Australia? Or New Zealand or Canada? "

EscapeArtist Has A New Search Engine - Click Here - We now have a search engine.  Why so long to build one, you might ask.  Our website is a directory with various categories and a standard search engine would not do.  We had to build a data-base driven search engine that searched by categories and topics. A fuzzy search engine wouldn't work for our website.  We have to enter each topic into the database by hand. As you might imagine this is one heck of a job, but we believe the end results are going to very worthwhile.  It's now on our home page only, going through beta testing and being added to on a daily basis. Try it out, let us know what you think.  Your comments are important to us. We will begin to add links to exterior websites within the next month or so.  At this point it provides links to our own website only.
