Escaping
to Ecuador - Bahia de Caraquez, The Paradise Peninsula - Nowhere
else in my travels of 11 Latin countries have I found people so open, friendly,
and willing to help. Although they are mostly from very humble backgrounds,
you won't be panhandled or hustled like you may have experienced in other
more popular destinations. You'll feel safe and welcome walking the
streets of Bahía day or night. You'll likely have people trying
out their few words of English as you visit. Tour the city on foot
in an hour or take one of the tricycle taxis that are a nice alternative
to cars.

Tales
from a French Village - Bulletin from the Back of Beyond -
Bill
Newman sends us his second despatch from his remote village of Navarin
in the Languedoc-Roussillon. This time his potpourri includes glimpses
between the sheets in French bedrooms, a summer fête in which 2,000
guests consumed 700 kilos of grilled sardines, and another fête in
which 160,000 grilled snails went “gloup” down 4,000 hatches. Also
featured are a visit to Navarin of a “specialist in energies”, stingy visitors
with moths in their trouser pockets, a tell-all author who was lynched
by his fellow villagers – and so much more.

| Argentina's
Cash Machine Daily Withdrawal Limits - Money Out |

| Argentina's
Cash Machine Daily Withdrawal Limits - Money Out - Unfortunately,
over the past year, a conspiracy against foreigners seems to have been
developing in Argentina. The Argentine banks have started to fix limits
on the amount of money foreigners are able to withdraw. And these
aren’t just normal fixed limits; these are LOW fixed limits. The
current limit per withdrawal in Argentina is set at about $300 pesos (roughly
$100 US dollars). Although that will get you much further in Argentina
than in The States, it is hardly enough to cover average tourist expenses. |

| Living
In Thailand - A Broad Abroad in Thailand - An Expat’s Misadventures in
the Land of Smiles
- I was slowly healing
from a truck-versus-car accident on the deadly Sukhumvit highway, and even
though my aches, pains and bruises seemed to be declining, I was still
walking with a limp. The headaches continued for several weeks; however
my memory of the crash lingered long after. I was so paranoid I didn’t
want to step outside. I was terrified to even get near a car. Dreams were
constant and always the same: my car’s brakes touched the floorboards as
I sailed ever nearer to the abyss. I awoke struggling, half off the bed
with the sheets so tight around my legs I couldn’t move. |

| Who
Else Wants Quality Health Care…at Affordable Prices? - If the great
weather, lower cost of living, and improved quality of life can't convince
you to move to Latin America, try this (and it may be the most compelling
reason of all): affordable, quality health care. All the politicians
in the U.S. are talking about it. Upcoming elections may hinge on
it. It's something everyone needs and deserves. |

| Living
in the Italian "Campo" - The Power of Beauty - “The
campo” (meaning field or open country space in Italian) is our name for
a piece of property 100 yards down the way where we spend most of our time
mostly during the summer months, and the rest of the year on any warm afternoon.
When friends and family from the States ask me to describe the campo to
them I usually respond by first saying it sits next to old railroad tracks
(that used to be part of the Orient Express line!) and is the location
of the first train station in the area, which was blown to pieces during
WWII. |

You: Leave Switzerland Alone! |
|
| By
Bob Bauman |
| Hey
You: Leave Switzerland Alone! - Start
out with the natural prejudice that the world's elite politicians has against
wealth (except their own). Add in the outrage of welfare state tax collectors
who hate financial privacy and bank secrecy (which they wrongly equate
with tax evasion). Then throw in a large dash of international envy - and
you can understand why the media also aims their attacks at Switzerland. |
