- one of the world’s top retirement havens |

Belize
- one of the world’s top retirement havens - From
its Caribbean shores to its jungle interior, Belize has great natural beauty—blue
water, deserted beaches, and inland retreats where you can explore Mayan
ruins, tall waterfalls, rainforests, and rivers. Bird watching in Belize’s
interior is also a treat; you’ll be able to spot parrots, toucans, flycatchers,
and herons in their natural habitat or visit a jaguar preserve where you
can venture into the jungle in search of the elusive cats. It’s no wonder
Belize’s tourism industry is booming. If recent figures are any indication;
this tiny tropical paradise could be on its way to becoming the next hot
destination for explorers, expats, retirees, and investors. Between 2003
and 2004, cruise visits to this country increased by a full 55.1%—as opposed
to just 13.1%, for example, for the same period in the Bahamas. By Kathleen

The
Rise and Fall of an Expat Haven - San Miguel de Allende ~
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a beautiful town, with one of the best
climates on the planet, and now, one of the hottest real-estate markets
on the planet. The town began as a destination for Americans when in the
1950’s a few yanks discovered that they could attend the Instituto
Allende, an art school put together by an American, Stirling Dickinson,
on their G.I. Bill Benefits. What better life than having a Dollar
Stipend, a perfect climate, and all the Tequila and Pot you could
buy in a sweet lovely little Mexican town that had been forgotten by time?

Life in a Turkish Tourist Town - I
wake up every day knowing that I live in one of the most lovely places
in the world. That, in spite of the invasion of thousands of people
who have arrived these past few years to buy into our quality of life.
Fortunately, I arrived in Bodrum, Turkey in the late eighties. Little did
I realize then that I would still be here 20 years later. I am not the
first foreigner to have been lulled into the Lotus Eating syndrome in Bodrum,
Turkey. Hundreds of foreigners arrived before I. By Priscilla Windsor

Living
In Italy - Beyond the Illusion ~ Italy
has never ceased to captivate people from other countries, especially speakers
of English. They begin to see their former homes as sunless and dull, their
former lives as restricted and puritanical. They see themselves changing
in expected ways, becoming perhaps more alive, even hedonistic or, in other
instances, more scholarly or more deeply religious. For a few the changes
are intimidating, but often the newcomer begins to see Italy as a new kind
of home and looks for ways to stay longer or permanently By

Starting
a New Life in Spain ~ I suppose it
was about ten years ago when we first started thinking about buying a property
in Spain – a holiday home that we would intend to visit for two or three
weeks of the year. Over the following years, at weekends, we would trail
numerous property exhibitions organised by the big estate agencies. But
back then, like with many others, owning a home abroad turned out to be
only a dream, as the visits to the exhibitions were as far as we got and
we never took that step further. By Elaine

Living
In TheValley of Longevity in Ecuador - Vilcabamba
and the nearby villages continue to cast their spell on savvy world travellers
who recognise a unique location with unusual benefits when they see one.
The highly touted health benefits derived from the energy fields of intersecting
ley lines seem to bear out the legends. In talking with many newly
relocated gringos I hear stories of increased vigor and decreased aches
and pains. It’s amazing how many people I hear from who have vague
plans to move here upon their retirement. But, like everywhere else
in the world where the countryside is beautiful and the living is easy,
progress is inexorable. So my advice is “Don’t wait much longer or
you will miss the boat”. By Andre Grossenbacher

for Retiring, Investing, or Just Good Living by Lee Harrison - If you've
never considered Uruguay as a place to live, or even to visit you’re
going to be completely surprised by all it has to offer - The
country is diverse. Montevideo is a old-world European style city with
fine restaurants, colorful markets, sycamore-lined streets and a cultural
scene second to none. Here you’ll encounter an honest, European culture
that’s representative of what you’ll see throughout the country. In Colonia,
you’ll find that the original Portuguese settlement has been restored,
and its residents have made it one of the finest examples of old colonial
architecture in South America. With it’s year ‘round tourist trade, Colonia
is a great place to invest in a colonial restoration or a rental property. |

Ten
Ways to Lose Your Property Overseas Without Really Trying - Anyone
can tell you how to lose property overseas, and although I am not a specialist
in overseas property, I have heard my share of both legal and non-legal
advice on such matters, most of which began in earnest when I decided to
marry a Norwegian. Making the move from the U.S. was traumatic enough
without the ‘culture shock’ that snuck up as the days and months passed.
Refusing to feed that monkey, I found myself progressively more established
in Norway, speaking and writing Norwegian, and at least by year seven,
trying to stomach some of Norway’s more challenging culinary fish delicacies.

Property Investment Guide - The True State of Real Estate in Kenya
- There’s an interesting and intense debate going on in Kenya right
now about whether or not the Kenyan real estate sector is actually experiencing
a boom. Some local constructors deny evidence that a boom exists
while many of the country’s property speculators are talking up all the
evidence they can find to prove to the wider world that the Kenyan property
sector is actually the place to be right now for maximum gains and
profits. So where exactly does the truth lie and what does it matter
anyway? By Rhiannon Williamson

Yin & Yang to Fred & Ginger: The Dancing Building in Prague |
|
By
Michael Felton-O'Brien
|
From
Yin and Yang to Fred and Ginger: The Dancing Building in Prague - In
a quiet green space in the ancient city of Prague, Czech Republic, a stone-faced
old man sits idly and watches as a gleaming couple bends and sways in a
perpetual dance on the corner of a busy intersection near the banks of
the Vltava River. But there is no music to be heard as the couple dances,
because in reality “the dancers” are actually a Frank Gehry creation
officially known as the Nationale-Nederlanden building. The building has
been dubbed “Fred and Ginger” by appreciative critics because of its resemblance
to the famous dancing pair of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Like-minded
Czechs tend to call it tancinsky d?m, or, The Dancing Building, while less
appreciative viewers have names for it like: “terrible“ and “looks like
a crushed can of Coke“ to name but a few. By Michael Felton-O'Brien

The
best job in the world -- how to get started as a travel writer - I
have friends who wonder aloud whether travel writing really is a job or
simply an excuse I use to get out of town. I would argue that it is indeed
a job -- the best one imaginable for anyone with terminal wanderlust.Don’t
get me wrong, as a travel writer you will spend some hours with your bum
in a chair and your hands on a keyboard. But in my book, of all the kinds
of writing you can do -- fiction, academic, marketing, technical, etc.
-- travel writing is the most fun…and the most rewarding in terms of the
quality of life it helps provide. By Jennifer

- Once you’ve accumulated a significant amount of wealth, what’s the best
way to protect it? There are many options—ranging from an offshore account
which offers privacy and a limited degree of asset protection, to an offshore
trust which offers extremely strong asset protection, but requires that
give up full control over your assets. In Switzerland and Liechtenstein,
we have a different approach to asset protection: we use insurance policies
for this purpose. Foreign investors are specifically protected. By Marc

Privacy Report - Regain Lost Privacy With The Lifeboat Strategy - Mark
Nestmann was one of the people whose work I consulted when writing the
book version of Escape From America. The ongoing erosion of privacy in
the United States is the most important issue facing Americans today.
Without privacy, we have nothing, or less than nothing. Privacy is a human
imperative because privacy of self is an important biological necessity
of a sane and stable sense of self. It is a scientific fact that a rational
person cannot have their autonomous sense of self (their sense of privacy
of self,) compromised and still function as a healthy individual.
Thinking and creativity require the capacity to make independent judgments,
an invasion of our privacy such as that going on in America today violates
that capacity. It is more than important to reclaim our privacy, it is
a biological necessity. Those who want to know about privacy and how to
regain it turn to Mark Nestmann; he is the authority on issues of privacy,
and he has a wide range of solutions to our loss of privacy problems. |
