Living
In The Philippines ~ Two
Years In The Philippines ~ by Larry Tadeyeske - Tired of the rat-race
that America has become? Tired of being run-down by women dominated by
greed and material objects and who jump into bed with your best friend?
Then try something different, there is a place where things move at a slow
pace, where women are feminine and lady-like, and the cost of living is
a lot less. The weather is warm year-round, white sandy beaches are everywhere
with coconut palms gently swaying in the breeze. Crystal clear waters,
you can see the bottom 15 feet deep.
Cheering
Up Down Under ~ In
New Zealand ~ by Candy Green - Winter has definitely settled in the
Canterbury region of New Zealand. When I leave my house before 7AM for
the walk down the hill to the bus stop, it is dark. When I return by 5PM
and head back up the hill, it is dark again. The port town of Lyttelton
smells of wood fires burning at both times and I see smoke twisting and
rising from chimneys into often foggy and leaden skies.
So,
You Want To Move To The Bahamas ~ Through
The Eyes Of A Transplanted American ~ by David Reeve - I have compiled
the following pages for your enjoyment, with the help from my wife Andria.
She is a native born Bahamian, who spent 25 years living in the United
States, while I am an American.I wrote this E-Book it to assist people
who might desire to move to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and to better
understand the people and lifestyle. The Bahamas consists of over 700 islands
of which approximately 34 are inhabited.
Moving
To The Caribbean ~ Phase
1: Research And Preparation ~ Well, I’m not the first
person to decide to move to the Caribbean, and definitely won’t be the
last. There probably are very few among us that haven’t considered
it after a vacation there. After all, the Caribbean is one of the
most scenic and friendly areas of the world. For me, that feeling
of being drawn there hasn’t gone away since my first visit in 1997, and
it is for that reason, among others, that has led me to moving there to
start a small business.
Saudi
Arabia, After The Intifada ~ Life
In Saudi Arabia As An Outsider ~ by Didier Ratsiraka III - Recently,
I completed a seven-year stint as a trainer in a school belonging to a
corporation in Saudi Arabia. While things ran fairly smoothly when I arrived
in 1996, once the uprising began in Palestine, life went downhill until
blood began to flow even where I was working.
Kabul,
Kabul ~ Living
In Afghanistan ~ by Brandy Bauer - It’s just past midnight on a Thursday
evening, and the party is going strong. A generator pumps artificial light
into the green-walled restaurant, where about 50 people sit smoking and
chatting animatedly. Beer cans litter the tables, along with leftover Bratwurst
and pistachio shells. And despite the fact that many of the patrons–UN
workers, employees of non-governmental organizations–have a strict curfew,
no one seems headed for the door.
Adventures
In Rural China ~ Zhenhai
~ by Edward Brewer - Zhenhai, with a population of about 500,000, is located
just 30 miles south of Ningbo, which has a population of about 5 million
people, and is just 200 miles south of Shanghai, over 13 million people.
Zhenhai is where I landed, this time, the sight of Chinas largest petroleum
refinery and chemical company, Zhenhai Refinery and Chemical Corporation.
Zhenhai is a city where most of the people are employed by ZRCC, truly
a company town, although with the changing times, the ownership of many
stores and shops are changing from company-owned to privately-owned.
How
To Obtain A French Driving License ~ Driving
In France ~ by Jeff Steiner - Your American license
is exchangeable for a French license if it is from one of the following
states: Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, South Carolina
and Kentucky (Please note this list can change at any time!). If you think
I missed a state, then call your local Préfecture or sous Préfecture
or French embassy/consulate. They will tell you if your license is exchangeable.
Moving
To Canada ~ Choosing
The Right Destination ~ by Thelma O’ Connor - You’ve decided to move
to Canada but before you go you must choose a destination in which to settle.
Canada, with over 10 million square kilometers of territory, is the second
largest country in the world, with many wonderful cities, towns and rural
communities beckoning the newcomer. The vastness of this country makes
choosing a destination all that more difficult. Do you choose to live near
the ocean, in the mountains, in a large city, on the prairies, or in the
lake regions? Suddenly, choosing somewhere seems overwhelming!
Carless
in Geneva ~ Living
in Geneva ~ by Aimée Skidmore - The invitation for the monthly
Parent Student Association coffee was crumpled up in Isabel’s back pack
when I found it on Wednesday morning. I sat in the kitchen, looking
at the paper and trying to decide whether I should go or not. My
eyes settled on the address of this month’s get-together: Centre Chavannes,
Chavannes de Bogis. I didn’t know where that was and so decided immediately
to attend. I didn’t really care for the last meeting, but the mission
to travel without a car was irresistible.

Never
Pay U.S. Taxes Again ~ Legally
~ by Robert E. Bauman - In sum, it requires professional consultations,
careful planning, movement of assets offshore and acquisition of a second
nationality. When all that’s done (and done exactly right), you must leave
behind your home country and become a “tax exile” with an established domicile
in a low or no-tax jurisdiction. And, for U.S. citizens, this unusual plan
requires, as a final step toward tax freedom, the formal relinquishment
of citizenship.

You
want to live overseas and travel overseas, but how do you make a living?
- Become
A Travel Writer -
Our own magazine is looking for a specific type of writer and we've been
actively seeking a solution. We asked International Living Magazine about
finding writers and they provided us with an answer. We wrote about
this concept in a recent issue of our magazine; it includes a travel writers
course in Paris, France - as well as additional venues. It is very
much worth reading this article to see if it may apply to you. Making a
living as a travel writer is one of those ways of having your cake and
eating it too. |

The
Many Faces And Exotic Secrets Of Southeast Asia’s Land Of Smiles ~ Adventures
In Thailand ~ by Steenie Harvey - During a February trip, I packed
what seems a lifetime of experiences into 14 days. I rode an elephant.
Stomped gilded temples. Went white-water rafting. Bartered for opium artifacts
and jade carvings near the Golden Triangle. Feasted on spicy papaya salads
and tiger prawns the size of a toddler’s fist. Sampled a traditional two-hour
massage. Trawled markets where the goods on offer included live frogs and
ants eggs. Marveled at a seascape of islands and jungly pillars straight
from an eastern fairytale.

Finding
A Villa In Turkey ~ Daylan
~ by Charles Bentley - I suppose it was the Tom Sawyer,
Huckleberry Finn manner of our boyhood that left us with a deep love for
the lifestyle, values and environment long since sacrificed to secure the
material riches of the modern world. Yet part of us never left the backwater
village where we grew up. Part of us still yearned for the simple pleasures
and delights of that time and place.

Some
Thoughts On Living In The Less Developed World ~ Emerging
Markets ~ by Jurgen Klemann - Loads of articles in this magazine revolve
around countries like Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Panama,
Belize, the Dominican Republic etc. What do these countries have in common?
They all fall into the category of emerging markets. No matter what the
differences and similarities of these countries may be, one way or another,
they all belong to the less developed world.

Wandering
Through Georgia ~ Journey
From Yerevan, Armenia Through The Former Republic Of Georgia ~ by Dorothy
Aksamit - Our Armenian guide, Gagik, had come to the Erebuni Hotel in Yerevan
to see us off. The card of the gentleman he brought with him announced
that he was a Pentecostal Pastor. The Pastor agreed to get us to
Tbilisi, the capital of the Republic of Georgia for $100. This would
include another payment at the border to another taxi driver who would
deliver us to the Hotel Adjara in Tbilisi.
Alicante,
Spain And How To Explore It In One Day ~ A
Foot Walk Around Alicante ~ by Robert Carlton - After
just coming back from a short business trip to London, my wife and I were
sitting together with friends in our garden in the Alicante suburb of San
Juan on a warm summer evening. Whilst sitting together I mentioned
a request from Escapeartist for an Alicante article which I received some
days before. You should write about “Alicante and how to explore it in
one day” – my wife said, because traditional Costa Blanca tourists really
won’t have much interest in the city – but more in the beaches, villages
and bars around the area.
Cambodian
Director Preserving Khmer Culture, Through Martial Arts Movies ~ Preserving
Cambodian Khmer Culture ~ by Antonio Graceffo - All morning people
kept asking me if I had heard of E Pho Thoung. Of course I had. Everyone
in South East Asia knew the name of the Khmer boxing champion and world
kickboxing champion. But having heard of him was a far cry from having
him leap up, and crash down on the top of my skull with his elbow. Effortlessly,
he flew through the air, his huge, muscular frame, like a cruise missile,
intent on killing me. I jumped out of the way at last instant, and caught
a reprimand from director, Ouk Haiseila.
Humpback
Whales Around Sainte Marie Island ~ In
Madagascar ~ by Rabenilaina Harinia Cyrille - From Toamasina, Nosy
Boraha or - Tamatave in French, and about 370 km from Antananarivo -
is one of the most important ports on the East Coast of Madagascar, from
this port town you can easily reach Sainte Marie Island by boat or by plane.
The island is also called Nosy Mbavy, that translantes into “the women’s
island”.
Luck
Of The Irish ~ The
Emerald Isle ~ by Dawnelle Salant - It’s easy to see where the phrase
“Luck of the Irish” originated. Part of their luck lies simply in inhabiting
one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. For such a small country,
there is an astounding amount of beauty, history and culture. My short
ten day visit was enough to only skim the surface of all that the Emerald
Isle has to offer.
Micronesia
~ Paradise
~ by Bob Arthur - If you want to be ahead of the crowd - find out where
Micronesia is. Between Hawaii and Guam, Micronesia is still one of the
few remaining paradises in the world. Because there are few visitors, the
island and lagoon are pristine. You won't believe the island or the healthy
reef until you see for yourself.
The
Panama Railroad ~ Panama
City To Colon ~ by Matthew Atlee - I have been on many great
train journeys – Arica to La Paz , Fort William to Mallaig and Los Angeles
to Salinas – but I had never been on a train in Panama and had not even
thought about taking the train until a friend mentioned we should go. The
train leaves Panama City at 7:00 am and arrives in Colon 54 minutes later.
The return train doesn’t leave Colon until 5:00. The train travels through
a combination of jungle and swamp and looks out over the Canal and Lake
Gatun. When we arrived at the train station we noticed that the other passengers
on the train were a combination of locals and tourists. The locals were
taking the train to work – most worked in the Colon Free Zone as traders.
