| Finding
A Villa In Turkey |

| I suppose
it was the Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn manner of our boyhood that
left us with a deep love for the lifestyle, values and environment long
since sacrificed to secure the material riches of the modern world. Yet
part of us never left the backwater village where we grew up. Part of us
still yearned for the simple pleasures and delights of that time and place.
Return visits,
necessitated to respect the passing of boyhood friends no longer with us,
simply confirm the passing of those days long ago, those`blue remembered
hills.’ Where the sun shone all day and the peace and security were visible
and audible in everything around. Nothing is the same anymore. |

| Houses cover
fields where we once ran so free, woodland we explored for lost treasure;
levelled for farming and the river that once held challenge and fear in
its currents and frothing falls, now little more than a tedious stream.
Ah well, at least the memories remain.
Like a phoenix
rising from the flames, Dalyan infused our hearts and spirit with its gentle
reminders. The magic still remains in this far corner of unspoilt paradise.
Yes, this estuary village neighbouring the Mediterranean in South West
Turkey, its people, Its flora and wildlife [present us with the same magic
that we thought was lost forever.
Dalyan’s wonderful
beach, rich, lush valley and rolling mountains magically preserve that
special quality, that magical moment in time that we though was gone forever.
Now let’s cut
with the poetry, take off the rose coloured glasses and get on with the
story. Charlie, he’s my younger brother, calls me with the message: “There’s
Cheap holiday in Turkey Bruv! Ever been to Turkey? Come on lad! Surprise
Pauline, we fly out on Monday!”. |

| The rest
as they say is history. As the airport bus pulled away from dropping
us outside our apartments in Dalyan I remember thinking how quiet and nice
it all seemed. We checked in, unpacked and took the obligatory inspection
walk into town. Restaurants, ethnic shops and hairdressers featured on
this first reconnaissance. Dalyan was nice! It had a good feel to it and
the people were immediately friendly. Our account for the first meal came
to something less than £20. Pausing to check that there had been
no mistake, we were 4 in number and we consumed 3 magnificent courses washed
down with liberal amounts of alcohol. No, the account was correct 3 courses
for around £5 a person. The first night was good.
If the first
night was good, the remainder of the week turned out to be a shere delight
as things got better and better as Dalyan expressed its quiet calm magic
on us all. |

| On Turtle
Beech we met Helenka, a fluent English speaking Brit with a Welsh/Polish
pedigree. She invited us to visit her brother in laws Hotel, The Metin,
in the centre of town. Again, cutting a long story short we took up the
invite, enjoyed still more wonderful hospitality.
In our family
we have a rule that there are so many beautiful places on planet earth
to visit that we never go back to a holiday destination. Dalyan shattered
that rule of nearly three decades and a second holiday was booked staying
in the Metin just 6 weeks after our first visit to Dalyan.
Over the next
few years we travelled time and time again to this wonderful vestige of
unspoilt paradise. Dalyan’s beauty and charm captured our hearts as did
the warmth of the people and the sheer magic that this nature reserve engenders.
Many subsequent
visits over the following 6 years, diligent research and countless meetings
with landowners, builders, architects, legal notaries, stone masons, designers,
suppliers of this and that and all the dedication required to source best
practice and value for money and our first house, Dalyan Jewel, was complete. |
|
|
| Excited, we
were ecstatic, like children waking on Christmas morning to discover the
magic and delights of those bulging parcels we enjoyed our home from home.
We revelled in its sumptuousness, facility and sheer magnificence.
Indeed we continue
to feel the same way about it as do all that come to visit us. Again to
cut a long story short, we introduced friends and associates to our Jewel
in Dalyan. The economics spoke for themselves, £14,000 in rental
income in year one. A minimum of a 35% capital appreciation and our Jewel
soon turned out to be more than a Jewel in name and nature. The economics
were better than good!
Very soon
others were looking to share in our Dalyan adventure. Dave, our friend
and colleague for many years was first to seize the opportunity. |

| Once again
we were able to share in the excitement and joy displayed by him and his
wife as their plans were drawn up and their dream villa took shape. Like
our first build, Dave’s property rose from foundation to completion in
around 7 months. Like our first Vila his rental experience and capital
appreciation was great.
So many
friends and associates who stayed at our Villa, like us, fell in love with
the region, the peace and tranquillity, the people and that special magic.
that is Dalyan. Such was the demand for help and advice in finding land,
drawing up plans, commissioning a builder, meeting the planning and legal
requirements, indeed answering the myriad of questions that go with the
task of building a holiday home.
