The
Caribbean On $25 A Day - Affordable
Caribbean ~ by Allan Weisbecker - Like virtually all Down Islanders,
my gypsy cab driver Kesler was out of his mind behind the wheel, but, God
bless him, he did me sane, right and dandy insofar as leading me to accommodations
goes, notwithstanding the rear end collision we sustained just outside
the little hamlet called Betsy’s Hope on the island of Tobago’s rural windward
coast.
At
The Bottom Of The World - Ushuaia
~ by Mark McMahon - I embarked on this grand adventure just over four years
ago. And yes, I finally made it. I drove to the end of the world, Ushuaia,
the southernmost city on the planet. I was blessed with some fabulous photo
opportunities toward the end of my journey. Let me tell you about these
before I describe actually reaching my goal.
Hiding
Out In Panama - The
Hotel Ideal ~ by Matthew Atlee - The Hotel Ideal – pronounced eee-dee-al
– is the best place I know of to hide out in Panama. If you are looking
to escape from someone or you just want to become anonymous for a while
and you don’t have enough money for a more expensive place, then the Hotel
Ideal is for you.
Life
In Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil - “A
Jewel In The Rough” ~ by Shane Jackson - For those that don’t know
(I didn’t), Minas Gerais is a state in Brazil that is rich in history and
natural resources. Many may have heard of the historically preserved cities
Ouro Preto or Diamantina famed for gold, silver, diamonds and other jewels
found only here. Many have not heard of the national parks and beautiful
mountain ranges of Minas Gerais. It’s primary population center is Belo
Horizonte, a major center of commerce, agriculture, and industry. I think
it is the third largest city in Brazil.
Asilo
Nido & Scuola Materna - Education
In Italy ~ by Deirdré Straughan - When we arrived in Italy in
December, 1990, Rossella was 16 months old. I had been full-time at home
with her for most of her life, except for two months of increasingly long
hours in a parents' cooperative daycare center at Yale in late 1990, when
I needed time to pack up our house and make other arrangements to move.
Ross, although the youngest in the group, had been quite happy in daycare;
she enjoyed being with other kids. So when we got to Milan, I decided it
was time for me to go back to work, and I wasn't worried about her reaction
to more daycare.
Fond
Memories And A Common Sense Approach - Living
In Morelia, Mexico ~ by David Wix - For me, living in Morelia was a
very rewarding experience. It was certainly far different than what I had
been used to in the United States. When I went there in 1997, technology
existed, however, technicians were at times limited in their knowledge
compared to their counterparts in the United States. Therefore, on occasion,
computer equipment did not work as well as what I had been accustomed to.
And, computer services were much more limited. For instance, when I first
arrived at Centro Mexicano Internacional (CMI, my school in Morelia), there
was one computer available 10 to 30 minutes a day to students for email
services. If I wanted additional time and services, I had to go rent one
of the two or three available computers at a local cyber café a
few blocks down the street from CMI. |

Life,
Liberty, The Pursuit Of Happiness And Dying - Reflections
On Immigration To New Zealand ~ by Candy Green - My husband Tom stood
there telling me that he wanted to move our family of six from our home
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to New Zealand. He had just arrived back from
his first trip Down Under to help a fledgling television station get on
the air. Before he had gone, he hinted there might be a job possibility.
“Just tell me if you think New Zealand will be better for our marriage,
our family and our health,” was my response. Our family had been through
some tough times. A stressful life as a television producer in the United
States had taken its toll. Now, he was saying he was sure New Zealand would
be a better place for us. |

eBook On Belize- And It's Excellent
|
For
a certain kind of person there is a certain kind of place; and for
certain people that place is Belize. Belize - the laid back Caribbean
country of Central America! It's a favorite of those seeking a calmer
lifestyle in close proximity to the wonders of nature. Like a un-planed
2x4 full of splinters, Belize is sturdy, rugged and full of sandfleas,
but it also has it's share of beautiful islands, adventuresome spirits
and rum soaked nights. It's the place we dreamed about as children.
A place where we could do what we wanted without being called in to wash
up for dinner. It's a place where you need to know how to repair your own
car and replace parts of your plumbing with bailing wire and tape. It's
also a place where big brother isn't looking over your shoulder and you
can set your own building codes or own a flock of chickens. It's a place
where you can spend the day fishing without trying to keep up with the
Jones's. It's also become one of the hottest expatriate destinations in
Latin America. ...it's not for everyone, but it may be for you. If so,
there's a new eBook that will take you to Belize and help you stay there.

Some
Thoughts On Capitalism And Investing - In
2004 ~ by Juergen Klemann - A little and more interesting and telling
is the mindset of certain politicians and other public figures in Germany.
They all seem to be shell shocked by the possibility that international
banks may purchase one or another private German bank. When Deutsche Bank
bought Bankers Trust, it was just fine or “good as gold” to use a New Zealand
colloquialism. If an international bank is going to acquire a private German
bank, of course it is not just fine. And it is definitely not “good as
gold”. We might be tempted to use a phrase like economic provincialism
here to describe that sort of mindset.
International
Investment Made Easy - The
Sovereign Society ~ by Gary Scott - My wife Merri and I were
at Rosaspamba, Ecuador, our hacienda 5.4 miles north of the equator as
we watched a salmon sunset fade into plum wine and fall drunken in beauty
behind a razor-backed ridge. Stars awakened like diamond beacons studded
in ink.

La
Suisse - The Switzerland The Tourists Haven’t Discovered…And Where Foreigners
Are Allowed To Own - US$1
equals 1.37 Swiss francs ~ by Steenie Harvey - Switzerland isn’t just
for the mega-rich, and not all Swiss properties cost more than $1 million.
In the Villars-sur-Ollon area, bijou studio apartments sell for just over
$100,000. And while you won’t see “Heidi Homes” in IL’s Pocket Money Real
Estate, a three-bedroom chalet in Gryon could be yours for 360,000 Swiss
francs. At current exchange rates that’s $262,350. Built way back in 1733,
this postcard-pretty chalet is 1,600 square feet.

A Bullish Mirage - The
Widely Heralded Sharp Upturn In Business Fixed Investment ~ By Kurt
Richebächer - Odd news about the U.S. economy is proliferating. The
international media is littered with articles stating that the U.S. economy
is forging ahead with rapidly rising profits. Yet neither the stock markets
nor the currency market have taken any notice. Asking traders, nobody could
offer a plausible reason. Yet there are two very simple tentative explanations:
first, the economic news is good, but not good enough to meet the high-riding
expectations; and second, the bulls are fully invested, and short- covering
by the bears is finished.
Advice
And Conviction For The New Year - NEW
YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS, Part I ~ By Bill Bonner - "My Administration is
making America safer, more prosperous, and better. We are meeting the challenges
of our time," says George W. Bush in his end-of-the-year message. "Our
armed forces, joined by our allies, are on the offensive against terrorist
enemies around the world. Saddam Hussein is no longer in power and we are
hunting down al Qaeda leaders and al Qaeda terrorist cells and bringing
them to justice. Fifty million people in Afghanistan and Iraq have been
liberated from tyranny and our homeland has been made more secure.
Stupid
American? - Final
Thoughts From A Two Month Trip Around Europe ~ by Shaun Granato - This
phrase was uttered not by the local peoples of the countries that we visited,
but by the stupid American tourists that were there, blurting out in some
strange comical defense mechanism when put in a situation in which they
didn't like. Throughout this two-month trip I tried to understand why many
Americans that travel abroad think this way.

Pure
Life - Traveling
Through Costa Rica ~ by Dawnelle Salant - “Pura Vida”. In Spanish it
means “Pure Life” and is a phrase you’ll hear and see, everywhere in Costa
Rica. The locals live this expression to the fullest and their love for
life is evident on their smiling faces and in their kind actions to strangers.
Some of the happiest people I have ever encountered were Costa Ricans.
And why wouldn’t they be constantly cheerful? – You would be too if you
could call one of the world’s most beautiful and exotic countries home.
Two
Days At The Beach - Las
Lajas, Panama ~ by Kent McNaughton - On a previous trip to Las
Lajas beach in the western Chiriqui province of Panama, while trying to
lay out lines on the beach property bought by a fellow client of our real
estate agent - Miriam, we came across Pancho, the caretaker of a neighboring
property. Pancho invited us to use this place, if we wanted. We took him
up on his offer and made plans for Good Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Felixstowe
- On
The Coast Of England ~ by Jon Steele - Walking along the “boardwalk”
or waterfront area I can’t help but be reminded of Coney Island in New
York. There’s no roller coaster about but it has the same feel. On one
side of the main drag you have shops and arcades; on the other side is
the beach and ocean itself. The town is old and rustic, very little modernizations
anywhere, which give it a real charm and appeal.
Traveling
The Americas - From
Connecticut To Usuhaia ~ by Charles Ragsdale - Last year, during a
seven month period the author drove nearly 25,000 miles in a 1988 Toyota
4Runner from Connecticut all the way to the southernmost city in the world
– Usuhaia, Argentina, passing through some of the world’s most beautiful
scenery on some of the world’s worst maintained and most dangerous roads.
He ended his 12-country odyssey in Paraguay, where he sold his car and
flew home to the USA, forever changed by his life on the road during what
was a truly remarkable undertaking. While a full recounting of his journey
would require many volumes, the author has agreed to provide us with glimpses
of his travels and insight into what he experienced.

The
Coconut Coast - A
Brazilian Version Of Paradise ~ by Stan F. Gwinner - The “Coconut Coast”
or Costa dos Coqueiros as it is called in Portuguese, lies on the northeastern
coast of Brazil, a few miles north of the city of Salvador, capital of
the state of Bahia. The Coconut Coast is a 125 mile stretch of sandy beaches
lined with coconut trees, sand dunes, rivers, lakes and mangrove marshes.
Its golden-sand beaches protected by reefs, and warm, emerald color ocean
waters offer an escape to paradise. |

Tanà
- The
Nights In Madagascar's Capítal ~ by RAJAONA TOKY A - Hidden
behind the moistness of the night comes a town with no possible comparison,
Tanà, the thousand-lighted city. From wherever you may come it’s
always the same festivity; with a variety of feelings, this town has something
exciting.
Northeastern
India - Destination:
Guwahati ~ by Rajdeep Bhattacharjee - Exploring India is always an
experience of a lifetime and it may not be possible for one individual
to cover the whole Indian subcontinent during lifespan. As many of us travel
to experience and share some of the unique locations, I am trying to experience
India’s northeastern region, which is still a mystery and is least explored.
