A
Day In The Life Of A Siam Escapeartist ~ More
On Living In Thailand ~ by Tomy Gunn - Tomy has written a number of
very informative articles about Thailand for Escape From America and this
time he takes us to the beach resort of Hua Hin. The town has become a
popular spot for the King and Queen of Thailand as well as some very talented
musicians who perform yearly in Hua Hin at the International Thai Jazz
Festival.
Memories
Of Africa ~ Namibia,
Botswana and Zimbabwe ~ by Jurgen Klemann - Always wanted to wander
in Africa with its wide open spaces and wildlife; the above article gives
you an idea of what it's like to travel through Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
The people and the beauty of the land is what you feel after reading Jurgen's
memories of Africa.
Why
Xalapa? ~ From
Chicago To Mexico ~ by Jan Morgan - Jan and her husband moved to Xalapa,
Mexico from Chicago, where he was a firefighter and she a writer; they
have found a new home in Xalapa. Xalapa is situated in the high mountains
of Mexico between the Gulf of Mexico and Mexico City. The town was founded
by the Spanish as a colonial trading post and is situated in a beautiful
valley. The city has colorful public parks and colonial architecture. The
expat community is just discovering the secrets of Xalapa.

the atmosphere of home. Many people have experienced this dilemma and there

how Bonnie introduces and then inculcates her European guests into the
traditions of Thanksgiving. |

HEALTHCARE
~ GLOBAL
OPTIONS ~ by Robin Sparks - Robin is a long time contributor to Escapeartist
and a great writer. In the above article she explores healthcare around
the globe. If you are interested in looking for medical care overseas,
then you should read the above article. It deals primarily with healthcare
options in Thailand, but touches on some other areas of the world as well.
Like anything, you need to research and discover what kind of healthcare
is best for you.
A
Night At The Cantina ~ Pavones,
Costa Rica ~ by Allan Weisbecker - For laid back mood, beaches and
fun, few countries can touch Costa Rica. Everyone takes shots at the country
- too expensive, too trampled on, too difficult to live in. It's all crap.
If you want to enjoy Costa Rica head south to the border with Panama and
sit back and enjoy what Las Pavones has to offer.
Living
In Botswana ~ The
Real Crocodile Hunters ~ by Ashley Hammond - Interesting article: mixes
soccer, Africa and conservation. Ashley has been coaching soccer in New
Jersey and as part of his coaching program, he has included some ideas
about wildlife conservation - taking one interest and using it to develop
another. Like the idea.
.
Up In The Mountains Above Cali ~ by Jacky Akelsberg.

Living
In Caravaca De La Cruz In Murcia, Spain ~ The
Beauty Of Spain ~ by Hugh Phelan - If you are thinking of living abroad
for the first time, I can't think of a better country to start with than
Spain. Great people, great places and great food. The above article describes
what it feels like to arrive in Spain for the first time without any presuppositions
- the best way to arrive in any country. |
.
Moving
Back ~ Moving
Back To The United States From Dubai ~ By Maura Madigan - Do I stay
or do I go - the Clash, right - it's a question you are always asking
yourself if you live overseas. What will it be like if and when I return.
Will I crack or will it all be for the best. At what point will the things
I missed about home turn-around and send me back out on an adventure. The
stress of it is not that bad and you can always leave, go, stay or just
travel. It's for sure that you're the same wherever you go, but are you
happy?
On
Two Wheels ~ China
From The Slow Lane ~ By Ben Hill - Mao's shadow falls far in China.
A Chinese English student of mine from the countryside north of Chengdu
told me that everyone in China says that Mao was 30% wrong and 70% right.
But I've always been told that the Chinese aren't good gamblers, though
I don't know that. Anyway, it seems as though Mao's legacy is being driven
over, literally.

How to Own Land Anonymously Through the Little Known “Land Trust”
- How
to Own Land Anonymously Through the Little Known “Land Trust” - From
a privacy standpoint, a trust is superior to business entities such as
corporations or limited liability companies. There is generally no requirement
to register the trust. Nor are there public records of officers, directors
and shareholders. The trustee keeps control of the trust records and the
identity of the beneficiaries in a secure location and will not reveal
this information without a subpoena. No one knows about your beneficial
ownership except you, your attorney and the trustee.
Historic,
Traditional, Sometimes Magical Poland ~ Where
A Fistful Of Zotys Goes A Long, Long Way US$1 Equals 3.98 Zoty ~ by
Steenie Harvey - Poland is country with a tragic past. It once ruled the
Ukraine and its nobility was one of the few in Europe that dominated the
ruling monarchies throughout the age of absolutism. Communism never really
took root in Poland - the Catholic Church, and Labor Unions were always
too strong for the central state. The Soviets had to invade in order to
hold the place in the early 80s. Poland might be a place to look for a
piece of land; the above article gives you an idea of what traveling around
Poland might be like..

ANTI-AMERICAN
SENTIMENT ~ Politics
In Latin America ~ by Mark McMahon - Have been in Latin America for
8 years and have never been harassed about my American citizenship. Now,
I've be harassed, but about other things. Like taking a piss in the wrong
yard or laughing to loud in a quiet bar. Mark has his own vision of this
and when you live outside your own culture, breeding, rules and norms you
learn what it feels like to be seen as different and strange and even dangerous
- but you always find your friends and then get on with living.
Tyranny
Of The Here And Now ~ Having
Noticed That Democracy And Popular Markets Listen Only To The Living, Whilst
Ignoring The Dead, Who Will Speak For The Not-Yet-Alive? ~ By Bill
Bonner - What can the Dead and the Unborn tells about what we should do
in the future. How important is the past to the present and what is our
obligation to those who will follow us. Sometimes history seems like a
trick that we all have to live within or try to avoid, but its lessons
are obvious. The above article susses out some of these ideas and others.
Convergence
Under The Bed Spread ~ Exploring
The Possibility Of A Falling Credit Rating For US Government Debt Banana
Republic Style! ~ by Dan Denning - Political Economy - the interaction
of states and markets - was originally seen as a Marxist concept and later
as a Leninist way of looking at the world trading and financial norms.
Political economy and particularly International Political Economy were
not part of American Academia; it was Europe and later the Developing World
that kept it alive - England in the former and Tanzania and India in the
latter. Debt creation or government spending - depending on how you see
it - was seen by political economists as a way for states to stimulate
their economies when the market was depressed. The idea was never to spend
so far beyond one's resources that only pure faith could keep things going.
A
Life With A View... ~ Returning
To The USA ~ By Jesse Pennington - For children that grew up overseas
in the U.S. Military or on Missionary Work the cultural traditions that
many people take for granted in the U.S. childhood - baseball, football,
T.V. programs - are foreign. I've met many missionary kids that know nothing
of the T.V. programs, The Brady Bunch, The Munsters and Happy Days; and
when you realize they know nothing about these American pop culture icons,
you scratch your head and say nothing, knowing that explaining such a thing
in such a small amount of time would be truly hopeless and stupid. Often
when you do try to explain, you yourself realize the stupidity of a T.V.
program or T.V. character.

Korean
Lessons ~ Restrooms
And Toilets ~ by Tim Myers - When you move to another country bathrooms
can be one of the things that you first run into that will make you say
to yourself, "Ain't like home". In Costa Rica the bathrooms were never
finished, in Panama they were always too dirty. When I lived in the deep
interior of Panama I used to have to go to an outside bathroom that was
really just a hole in the ground with a board over it and some concrete.
You had to be careful because bats flew around in the hole below the toilet.

Albania
~ Teaching
In Europe's Only Islamic State ~ by Lorna J.Paterson - Albania has
some of the best Roman ruins in Europe; it also has great unspoiled beaches
and mountains. The country was sealed off for years when Enver Hoxha ran
the place from 1944 to 1985. The son of a Muslim merchant, Hoxha was famous
for his paranoia - the seven interior ministers who carried out all the
killings in order to keep internal security and crush all opposition to
Hoxha, were executed by Hoxha. The pure beauty of the country and the fact
that it's a part of Europe that is still relatively unknown and culturally
very different from other countries in Europe, makes it a place to visit
or live. |

You'll be surprised.

heard of.

In Time To Gonwonda Land ~ Adventure
In Australia ~ By William Starr Moake - Great article about traveling
around the remote northern territories of Australia. Find out what it's
like to travel through a landscape that is 120 million years old. You will
see some of the oldest flora and fauna in the world. Be careful because
there is the dangerous funnel web spider and the brown box jellyfish, both
of which can kill a human. If you're brave and like adventure then take
a look at what it's like to travel to the far north of Australia. |

The
Tsingy Of Belo Sur Tsiribihina And The Royal Bath ~In
Madagascar ~ by Rabenilaina Harinia Cyrille - Nia takes us to the south
of Madagascar where tradtions run deep. The landscape and people are magical
and there is plenty to see and do. If you're thinking about visiting Madagascar
be sure to drop a Nia a line; he would be the perfect person to talk to
about planning a trip to the "red island".
Panama's
100-Year Celebration ~ Frank
Robinson And San Felipe ~ by Matthew Atlee - The 100 year celebrations
of the founding of Panama were great fun. Went to the old town of Panama
and took some fun photos and then headed out to the U.S.-Panamanian baseball
game and after the game back to Panama City for the marching bands and
good times. If you are thinking about heading to Panama for your deep winter
vacation in January, February or March remember that Panama is celebrating
its centennial for at least a year after the actual date, November 3rd,
of the founding of Panama. It's like a good friend of mine in Panama; she
celebrates two birthdays each year.
