America may not get the same business media coverage as Europe and Asia,
but thanks to the world wide web, there are several good resources available
to English-language executives.
We strongly recommend the web site
of The Wall Street Journal.
While it's a subscription-only site, the cost ($59 per year) is relatively
small compared with the useful information provided. The Journal
provides well-written articles by its own staff as well as news items from
Dow Jones and AP. While we find the design somewhat confusing, regular
users will quickly be able to navigate to the appropriate sections.
The Financial
Times provides a good complement. While its typical reports are shorter
than the Journal's, the FT provides coverage of more countries -including
the smaller economies (Central America, Bolivia, Ecuador) not covered by
the Journal and most other business media. The design is good and
navigation easy.
Another very good source is Bloomberg,
which provides updated information from the top economies. We especially
recommend this source for following breaking news and hour-to-hour changes,
like we've recently seen in Argentina and Venezuela.
There are also several media specializing
in Latin American business. One good resource is Business
News Americas, which provides extensive information by industries -
very useful for quick searches on a given sector. Another good source is
Latin
American Newsletters, which provides extensive political commentary
as well. And Latin Trade, the magazine on business in Latin America,
publishes its content on the
web
