Kingfisher
Bay Island Estates & Marina ~ 5 Star Project Underway in Panama
- Island
Estates & Marina In Panama - In May, on a clear bright day with
a big sky, the Editor of Escape from America Magazine boarded a helicopter
and flew for 25 minutes on a southeast bearing of 144 degrees over the
Gulf of Panama to visit the proposed site of Kingfisher Bay Island Estates
& Marina. His mission was to cover a story about an exclusive development
project underway in the Las Perlas Islands. What he found was triple canopy
forest, pristine beaches, miles of nobody, and a highly plausible vision
of the future. |

Sparks Looks At The Expat Scene In Bangkok - The
Expat Scene In Bangkok - One woman says that although she came
here for her job, she has grown to love Bangkok. "This weekend I ate in
the best restaurants, partied in some excellent clubs, took a new dress
design to my tailor who will work from my sketches, ate durian, and cruised
the klongs in a water taxi on Sunday with friends. We found a temple and
offered up our wishes on wax tablets. Where else can you get all that?"
Raising
a Blonde Samurai ~ Moving to Japan with Kids - Moving
to Japan with Kids - Cynthia Cudmore-Mulder has lived in Fukuoka, Japan,
with her Dutch-Curaçaoan husband and their young son for the past
five years. In January, they'll be moving to Isla Taboga and into retirement.
Of Japan, Cynthia says, "Our five years in Japan is coming to a
close. With tears, affection, anger and laughter we’ve embraced our adopted
culture. Japan is a wonderful country, full of new opportunities and experiences,
but we are constantly reminded that we are outsiders in their contradictory
world of ancient tradition, discipline, state-of-the-art electronics, and
the birthplace of Pokemon. In order to survive and function here we had
to be open-minded and adaptable. It is, after all, their culture, and we
have loved our years in Japan."

COLOMBIA ~ Heart of Heaven, Heart of Hell ~ The Pros and Cons of Living
and Working in Colombia - Living
and Working in Colombia - Larry M. Lynch has been living and working
in Cali, Colombia, for the last seven years. He has this to say to those
of you considering moving to South America, "Don’t worry needlessly
over the politics and news reports. Never mind the Arnold Schwarzenegger
movie. No longer does the sound of helicopter gunships firing into the
suburban brush greet your ears in the evenings. President Andres Pastrana
has adopted a 'get tough' attitude with guerilla forces. President-elect
Alvaro Uribe won based on his hard-line stance against Guerilla and Para-military
forces. Just remember to prepare yourself for the adventure of a lifetime
when you do come. It’s up to you whether Colombia becomes the heart of
heaven or the heart of hell."

in playing, supporting, seeing the videos, helping raise money for elephant-oriented
charities, attending the tournaments and watching, or just hanging out

Sir
Real ~ Mexican Police Chiefs, Parades, Personal Space - Gonzo
Travelogue - John Torrente comes at us again with another travelogue
of adventure from south of the border, down Mexico way. "When I found my
body was again producing saliva, I fished for small talk. But being my
first intimate experience with a Mexican death squad, I was at a genuine
loss for words. Still, just moments before I was going to ask my new superhero
friends to exchange email addresses, the Chief’s Pickup screeched to a
halt. My Special Friends dropped their heads. I dropped my head. My Special
Friends scanned the periphery. I scanned the periphery. My Special Friends
disembarked, slithered into the woods and prepared to defeat the army of
little invisible monsters who were apparently interested in taking over
a dirt road on the barren mountaintop of Nada, Mexico."

Investing
In Turkey ~ Incentives, Conditions, Getting Started - Investing
in Turkey - Christoper Deliso reports on strategies, steps, and insider
pointers on how to set up your investments in Turkey, a strong US ally.
Turkey
is developing into a hot emerging market. The government is actively seeking
out foreign investors on huge privatization programs in the fields of energy,
telecommunications and infrastructure projects. The Turkish Constitution
has also been amended to allow for international arbitration- a previous
lack that had scared off potential investors. All in all, the situation
is becoming increasingly favorable.

Savings - The abolition of the corporation tax imputation system
by the Steuersenkungsgesetz (Tax Reduction Act) diminishes the degree of
discrimination against foreign dividends. This means that internationalization
could also become significant to small and medium-size enterprises. The
author discusses the establishment and utilization of an offshore company
(domiciliary company) in a tax haven.

Refugee Camp Mae Ra~ Volunteer Work on the Thai/Myanmar Border - Volunteering
for Refugees - Steve Grove is a recent college graduate who
set off for Asia in search of volunteer work. He came to rest on the border
of Thailand and Myramar (Burma). Steve offers his experiences and perspectives.
"Her small palm fit perfectly around my pointer finger. She walked with
tiny, quick strides, striving to keep up as I wandered through the camp.
Every once in awhile I’d look down at the top of her little bald head,
dirty from playing in the dust, and she’d look back up at me and smile.
Her smile was the kind of thing that makes smiling back the only thing
you want to do in the whole world."
