Falling
In Love With Kathmandu - by Robin Sparks - More
On Nepal's Wild Expat Scene - I am in the garden one morning
reading the Himalayan Times surrounded by flowers and vines just outside
of the crimson doors which lead into the house which has been my home for
the past four months. The doors are flung open to receive another day.
The flowers in our garden: dahlias, geraniums, peonies, roses... A vine
droops over the front doors, heavy with passion fruit. The papaya tree
outside my bedroom window stands straight and strong, its newly pruned
limbs sprouting tiny green leaves. A white grapes vine is growing over
there, and a juniper bush here, bright pink chrysanthemums, marigolds,
snapdragons, coral hibiscus, royal purple dahlias, yellow roses, mums,
golden irises, squash vines, a mango tree, and a statue of Lord Shiva,
with fresh cut flowers in his lap and petals scattered over his head. By
11 AM, Nepal is a kiln.

As anyone who has read my articles, the book version of Escape From America,
or who frequently visits this website well knows I've been saying this
since 1995. I feel pretty strongly about this." |

Making
the Visa Run ~ Doing it the Thai Way ~ Sometimes it's Part of the ABCs
of Living Overseas - Thai
Visa Run - One of the unique aspects of ex-pat life can be the
visa run. Visa runs are common enough throughout the world but are especially
a part of life for foreigners living in Thailand. Like usual, I got my
visa with a minimum of hassle, I went someplace new, met interesting people,
saw new things, didn’t spend too much and basically enjoyed myself.
If you have to make a visa run, or happening to be visiting SE Asia, you
should consider making a short trip to Cambodia.

Does Money Grow on Trees? - Growing
Teak Wood In Bocas Del Toro, Panama - Panama has many advantages for
the investor who chooses trees. Land and labor costs are reasonable.
There are few, if any, property taxes to pay. Under Law 24, future
profits on logs and lumber are exonerated, as is any sales tax. Money,
perhaps, does not really grow on trees, but in Panama many investors are
already proving it comes remarkably close.
