Our apartment is located in Entrevaux, a small town in the department Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, 43 miles from Nice, in the foothills of the French Alps. To get there you can take the train from Nice or go by car on the D 6202, both of which follow the winding Var River whose milky, sediment-rich water gushes from the high mountains through steep gorges toward the coast where it empties into the blue water of the Mediterranean. Lost in Transcription
By Eva Sandoval
|
| |
Before I moved to Japan in January of 2007, I called my best transcription client; a writer for several well-known American magazines. He'd more or less given me the idea to become a freelance transcriptionist when I was dazed and unemployed following the end of my internship at the famous publication we both worked for. Since then, he'd stuck with me through computer deaths, moves, and rate changes and I wasn't looking forward to telling him I was leaving. Read more>> |

Lavenders Blue
From its first appearance in written records, Lavender was used for scent. The ancient Greeks knew of it and scented their rooms with it; the Romans bathed in it and the ancient Libyans created perfumes with it. The name lavender,( lavandular) comes from the Latin 'lavare' , the word 'to wash', and according to records from the Middle Ages, lavander or lavender meant 'to launder'. Lavatories were stone-floored rooms for washing clothes. Read more>> |

State of Grenada - Spice of the Caribbean
By Julie Scott and Trevor Jefferson
By Morgan Freeman |
“Grenada is still a growing island oozing with gracious living and an idyllic lifestyle….” So the authors of this eBook describe it. In fact, Grenada is composed of three main islands: Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, located at the southern tip of the windward island chain in the Caribbean. The main island is just 21 miles long and 12 miles wide….the other two are considerably smaller.
Once part of the British Commonwealth, the three-island state of Grenada gained its independence in 1974 and now has its own autonomous government, albeit one modeled on the United Kingdom’s own. The authors include a fascinating political history in his report which will help those wishing to live here to understand the nature of this island domain.
English is the official language, (though the locals have a French-like accent that makes it sound like ‘a melody’ when spoken) which is why it is a popular tourist destination particularly for Americans…who account for some 25% of all visitors. Go there>> |

An Expat's Guide to Living and Working in Peru
By Tommy Almgren
By Morgan Freeman |
If you are considering Peru as a place to live or work, just buy this eBook. The emphasis is on clear and practical advice, knowledge which could only have been acquired by a foreigner living in this remarkable country. It has a most comprehensive section on applying for residency and visas. As the author says, if you tried to find all the pertinent information from other sources, it would take a lifetime and even then it wouldn’t be complete!
With a well constructed overview of the culture, geography, climate and a brief history, this book will help you to understand modern day Peru. Wipe the cultural slate clean, put your own 21st century expectations to one side, start off with low expectations and you will be rewarded with a wonderfully eclectic way of life.
Tommy Almgren cleverly and concisely navigates you through the paralyzingly bureaucratic process of visa applications, setting up a business and opening a bank account. Remember there are no shortcuts, the people you deal with will not think laterally, and have no authority other than to follow the letter of the law. Go there>> |
