The Adventurer’s Guide to Early Retirement, Retirement Planning Simplified - By Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
“Early retirement is a lifestyle, not a vacation.”
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli ‘retired’ at the age of 38 and have never looked back with regret. In this well constructed eBook they recount their experiences and offer insights into a new mental awareness.
Like many 30 somethings, Billy and Akaisha both held down good jobs, earned good money, had an opulent lifestyle and entertained lavishly. But all this came at a cost…80-90 hour weeks, no time to relax and a relationship that could be likened to “ships passing in the night”. They decided something had to give and rather than leaving it to fate, they took the decision fairly and squarely into their own hands and created an Early Retirement plan that was brilliantly and fastidiously executed.
They downsized, they saved, they divested themselves of unnecessary ‘stuff’ and invested their hard-earned money wisely.
This eBook tells their story…from owning a highly acclaimed restaurant in California to volunteer tennis court constructors in Mexico! And throughout it all they stress that ‘retirement’ does not mean opting out of life, it means simplifying your life, changing your focus and freeing yourself from the encumbrances of modern living.
In the book, they give you tips on how to make the most of your money – saving it, investing prudently, calculating your future needs; how to travel light and pack for a long trip; how to eat healthily – with advice on cooking and shopping; an excellent view on healthcare; maintaining your fitness, both physically and mentally. This is a truly inspirational read.
They also cover the discomfort of peer pressure, not keeping up with the Joneses and the changing nature of friendships once you have chosen to disconnect from ‘normal’ life: -
“You, by your decision to retire, have challenged and threatened their decision of how they are choosing to live their lives. All of a sudden, everyone is caught up in unwanted reflection.” They underline the fact that although we are all different, we are still social animals and need to be accepted by the tribe.
No one likes to admit straight out that he's afraid of retirement. It’s a massive leap into the unknown - mentally, emotionally, and financially. However much you think you have planned for it, the “What if” factor is still there. The Kaderlis have a very intuitive take on this:-
“The "What If" syndrome is all-pervasive. It attaches itself to every aspect of your life. However, living life through the eyes of fear only amplifies that uncertainty. If you wait for that perfect time to do something, you may discover that it never arrives and obsessing over this point out of anxiety, is counterproductive.”
Early Retirement is not a remedy for everything and everyone. We are all different; our resources and our needs vary. Billy and Akaisha do not have children, which made their decision to radically change their way of life more achievable.. But even if you choose not to follow their lead, you cannot help but admire their adventurous spirits. You can take all or some of their advice…every little bit is pertinent. There are no guarantees in life, but have faith in yourself, and embrace your retirement!
