Hello, and welcome. My name is Mark Beshara. I write exciting and very unusual books about Bali that are sold worldwide. I know you´re going to really enjoy my three books but before I tell you about them I want to tell you how I became a travel writer.

Actually, it happened quite by accident. I started out just an ordinary guy living in Los Angeles, California, and making a living as a marketing consultant (I´m the guy who launched Richard Simmons; I produced his first three albums). When my wife & I were on some marketing assignments outside the USA we discovered how very much we loved travel and the unpredictable adventure of living abroad. My wife is from Indonesia so when it was time for us to think about retiring we naturally decided to retire to Bali. Man, were we in for a big surprise!

We stayed at a beachfront hotel in the famous resort town of Kuta Beach for several months while looking for suitable housing and that´s when we accidentally began the adventure of our lifetime that became the basis for the three books I wrote about Bali.

     EATING BALI !

First, let me tell you how I came to write EATING BALI.
Living at a hotel for six months meant we had to find good restaurant food to survive. We thought it would be easy, but we were wrong. We´d ask the hotel staff, other tourists, everyone we could think of, but nobody we spoke with could give us the inside story about the hundreds of restaurants competing for our money. So we did it ourselves. We began keeping a record of our dining experiences and discreetly recorded the menu items & prices into a tiny mini-tape recorder hidden in my pocket. We were doing it for ourselves, just so we could stay healthy while enjoying terrific food at the lowest prices. When the pile of notes and cassettes began to fill a shoebox I suddenly realized what a great service it would be to provide other tourists with this valuable information. That´s when I decided to write EATING BALI.

There are more than 200 restaurants in the various regions of Bali and each review is loaded with valuable information, like the rating symbols for the food quality, price, sanitation, and atmosphere. Each review is like a very funny short story and there are lots of maps, a list of the places to avoid, a currency converter, a list of Bali´s Best in many categories and what I call my "Quickies" that tell you about a restaurant instantly in one line to save you time in case you don´t want to read the entire review. I also included extensive background information as well as the history and culture of all of the regions of the island. EATING BALI is 343 fun pages you are sure to enjoy.

     SECRET BALI !

Now I´d like to tell you how I came to write SECRET BALI.
Bali is an island of mystery and magic and tourists see only what´s on the surface and are never allowed to look behind the scenes. As my wife & I got to know every region intimately, we began to realize that there was much more to discover about Bali and that the stuff hidden beneath the surface was much more fascinating - and often lots more dangerous - than all the usual stuff that tourists are ordinarily allowed to see. Like the famous beachfront resort hotel that kills at least one tourist each year in a Satanic sacrifice to ensure its financial success, the XXXX-Rated Temple of Penis Envy, the Royal Palace that will rent you a room for a night, the off-the-beaten-path magnificent Sistine Chapel-like royal meeting room with painted ceilings, the secret Killing Fields where thousands were massacred because of Black Magic, the burial site of the hundreds of tourists killed in an unnecessary plane crash that´s still kept top-secret, and the secret location of the barracks housing most of Bali´s prostitutes. Our investigation was aided by Bali´s Governor who gave us permission to view rare sacred archives so we were privileged to learn things about Bali that no foreigner has ever known before. Everything we learned is revealed to you in the 164 pages of SECRET BALI.

     SCARED TO DEATH !

And now my personal favorite, SCARED TO DEATH.
During our two years in Bali we became trusted friends of people from all walks of life, including police detectives, military intelligence and a high-ranking member of the Secret Service. We kept hearing the persistent rumor that when U.S. President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, stayed in Bali for a few days during a 1984 visit to Indonesia to meet with President Soeharto, they participated in a Black Magic Voodoo Ceremony and that Ronald Reagan went into a coma and had a near-death experience. At first we didn´t believe it but the rumor just wouldn´t go away so we decided to look into it. We verified it´s true! And we visited the actual cottage where the ceremony took place (it´s part of one of Bali´s most famous resorts and we name it in the book) and we met with and interviewed the member of the Secret Service who was present and the Witch Doctor who conducted the ceremony at the Reagan´s request. We figured that if that rumor was true, maybe some of the other rumors we´d been hearing were also true, so we began traveling throughout Indonesia to investigate. We verified the Bali hotel where we were staying murdered its guests in Satanic Black Magic Sacrifices, we verified the existence of real vampires - all females, posing as nurses - and we met with and interviewed one of them, we verified a type of magic used by Bali´s prostitutes to hypnotize and swindle male tourists (it works well - a friend of ours lost $500,000 in just 30 days), we verified that a couple sold their eight year-old son to the Devil and we verified that a Witch Doctor gave a woman the Evil Eye and her son was gradually transformed into a monkey-like creature that defied medical tests. All seven of these terrifying true stores that we personally experienced are in the 169 exciting (and very scary) pages of SCARED TO DEATH.
