Taking a taxi in Colombia is as simple as walking out to the curb and hailing a driver. The question is, how safe is it to do this ? Easy Taxi and Tappsi have resolved the issue of Colombian taxi service or at least made it much less worrisome.
As in any new location that you might travel, the question always arises as to the safety of the taxis and their drivers. This concern is very prevalent in Colombia and in numerous articles we have strongly recommended that you call or have someone call on your behalf.
There are now applications available for your iPhone,/iPad and Androids that resolve this predicament. You can easily find them through the normal ”market” venues for free apps.
These applications allow you to call a taxi through your phone or tablet. Usually they ask you to confirm your location and tap to call the taxi. All the drivers are suppose to be registered and you will see the driver’s name and photo before you are picked. You can also track your driver in real-time.
Supposedly there is no surcharge for this service but reading the comments on the company websites, it appears that this might not be true in all countries.
