Spiderman Earns French Citizenship

Do you remember the viral video of Mamoudou Gassama, the Mali migrant in Paris who climbed a building to rescue a young boy hanging from a balcony? He has since been dubbed the name Spiderman and has been granted citizenship.

Mamoudou Gassama arrived in France last year through the Mediterranean migrant route and was working in construction.

After the rescue event, Gassama, who was living in France illegally, was thanked by Emmanuel Macron for his actions and was first granted residency. He was soon fast-tracked to receive citizenship for his act of bravery.

He was also offered a role in the fire service.

A Helping Hand

Hurricane Florence is approaching the coasts of North and South Carolina, and tropical storm conditions are expected to last throughout the weekend. With the storm coming, almost 2 million people have been ordered to evacuate their houses in preparation.

Because of this, hotels and airlines have been offering waivers and assistance to those who need to evacuate. “Open Homes” is a program by Airbnb, asking hosts to offer free accommodations for those who need to flee the storm. Many in the Carolinas and Georgia have offered free housing to help evacuees.

Hotels around the area of the storm and other areas on the east coast have waived cancellation fees and are even allowing guests to bring pets for free.

Many airlines that are making trips to and from the area are allowing guests to rebook their flight at no charge, and for those who are evacuating, many airlines are even allowing pets for free.

If you are in need of shelter or assistance from the storm, there are many who are lending a helping hand.

Another Storm is Coming

The U.S. east coast isn’t the only area preparing for a storm. The coastal areas of the Philippines are getting ready for a super typhoon that is heading their way. This weekend, Typhoon Mangkhut, with 160 mph winds, will hit the northern island of Luzon.

Offices and schools are being closed and farmers are working hard to save their crops. Roughly 10 million people are in the path of the storm. Millions of people in southern China may also be affected.

Heavy rains can cause landslides and flash floods.

The country is affected by nearly 20 typhoons and storms each year, but Mangkhut will be the strongest storm of 2018 in the area. The worst storm in history for the area was Typhoon Haiyan, killing more than 5,000 people in 2013.

Everybody, Everywhere

Inspired by Clean Up Australia Day that began in 1989, this Saturday volunteers all over the world will work together to make our planet cleaner. 20 million people are expected to celebrate World Cleanup Day that will begin in New Zealand and finish in Hawaii 36 hours later.Consumer Resource Guide

The annual event’s goal is to make the planet cleaner and healthier by collecting litter, cleaning waterways, and tackling climate change.

The cleanup effort doesn’t end on the 15th, however. The local volunteer groups hope that the event will inspire others to continue to make Earth cleaner through civic action and effective waste management.

The original Australian event on January 8, 1989, inspired 40,000 volunteers to band together to collect over 5,000 tons of garbage!

Should A Student Buy Or Rent A Home Abroad?

What We Can Learn From Mitt Romney’s IRA

Mitt Romney is expected to win the race for a Senate seat in Utah and could end up becoming one of the most powerful players in the United States Senate. Mr. Romney is a former governor of Massachusetts and ran for president in 2012, losing to Barack Obama. With all of that said, the most interesting thing about Mr. Romney is his IRA account.

Estimates of Mr. Romney’s IRA account are as high as $101.6 million, depending on who you ask. No matter the exact number, let’s agree that this is damned impressive considering the maximum contributions to a traditional IRA is relatively small.

According to the IRS website, for 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, your total contributions to all of your traditional and Roth IRAs cannot be more than $5,500 ($6,500 if you’re age 50 or older). Plus, your…
