If you’re thinking about starting a business offshore, but not sure how to do it, this post is for you. I’ll review the internet marketing industry and then direct you to a few of my posts on how to structure your affairs.

Online marketing has developed into a major driver facilitating; brand awareness, access to international markets, efficient access of information for consumers, and much more.

A complex variety of marketing techniques and strategies exist, such as:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), marketing content, local search marketing, influencer marketing, content automation, campaign marketing, data-driven marketing, blogging, e-commerce marketing, social media marketing, social media optimization, e-mail direct marketing, display advertising, e–books, and optical disks and games. Research shows there is no singular one that works the best in itself, but, in conjunction these techniques complement each other.

Online marketing can be accomplished by any person with general sales knowledge. To start you should consider 8 key questions (What? When? Where? Why? Who? Which? How? And How Much?) historically used by many philosophers, journalist, and even children in grade school learning a language. The key to marketing is first understanding the situation and context of what you wish to market.

Basics To Consider
What Is being marketed, the best strategy, Product, Services
When Momentum of the market, market trends, project management
Where Market, Distribution, Outsourcing, Location Base
Who Customers, Staff, Identifying government, Competition, target market
Why Cultural acceptance, Developing a brand, Different from competitors
Which Products or services to specialize in, strengths and weaknesses
How Implement strategy, sales force, target market works
How Much Time to invest, Capital to invest, Corned Market, Market Value

Digital marketing can be as simple as setting bait (an Add) and wishing/waiting for a response, or as complex building CRMs, Algorithms to maximize CTR, Unique content creation etc. Deciding which marketing strategies work best, is a trial and error effort, once a strategy is in place it can be molded and evolve into a unique opportunity to increase revenue.

Most successful Internet marketing Strategies according to the internet :

SEM (Search Engine Marketing)

Considering search engines are used 90% of the time users access the internet, it is key to obtain a high ranking in search results for words that relate to the sale. This is also known as SEO search engine optimization, making sure the site is visible when searching a product or service.

If you’re wondering what the other 10% might be… it’s going direct to a site by typing in the domain, following a link in an email, or using the bookmarks bar.

Local Search Marketing

Integrating maps and locations to the search only strengthens the credibility of the business. This optimizes the website in search results by providing geo-location and phone number or any addition information validating the business. Even adding a customer service line, that assists potential customers in buying products or services can help grow the business.

Content Marketing

Providing general to specific knowledge about a product or service can make or break a sale. Everyone will try to sell but, the most convincing argument is probably the most informative. Most people associate the level of expertise with quantity and quality of verifiable knowledge, it instills confidence in consumers. This strategy is consonant, now more than ever, with SEO, websites with more content receive higher rankings, because people spend more time on them, in addition, to the word tag frequency.

Social Media Marketing

This strategy may seem tricky, but it’s a useful tool for small businesses. This needs constant attention, promotion and updating with innovative ideas. Tapping into social media groups is automated and blasted in ways we have never thought of in the past. Online profiling, is a useful tool for target marketing, which is approachable through social media marketing. This method combines cookies, Web site traffic analysis, and personal information to create a profile of a customer’s browsing and buying habits. An online profile includes how much time customers spend in certain areas of a Web site and which ads they click on.

Email Marketing

This can be accomplished through a CRM tool (customer relationship management). Email blasts are at times annoying to consumers but, there are ways increase open rates and avoid the spam filter by providing value in the emails such as informative newsletters, offer discounts and updates. In the long run, this strategy has “double benefit,” because not only are you promoting a brand but also creating an extensive list of clients that possible competitors won’t have.

Email marketing today is about building the relationship with your reader. You offer something of value for signing up for your mailing list… in my case an international tax book of 350 pages. Then you send 3 or more informative emails each week to the list.

Again, the purpose of these emails is to build a relationship with your readers. You prove that you are the expert in your niche and thus should always be their first call when they need your services.

Email marketing is not just about selling. I look at is as the step before you sell… convincing the reader that, when they are ready to buy, they should buy from you.

Applying all five areas of internet marketing is the key to success. Formulate a plan and stick to it step by step.

Building your Business Offshore

Once you have your business idea, it’s time to build your business structure. You should start by selecting your country of incorporation, your country of residency, and your corporate structure.

The country where you incorporate your business should provide great privacy, protection, and a zero or near zero tax rate on profits. For a list of countries that won’t tax your business, see Which Countries Tax Worldwide Income?

The country where you have residency should be where you want to have your “home base.” Where you want to spend some time, even if you’re a perpetual traveler.

Most of our clients select Panama as their country of residency. This is because the Panama Friendly Nations Reforestation Visa allows you permanent residency, and a path to citizenship, with an investment of only $20,000. For more, see: Best Panama Residency by Investment Program

Consumer Resource Guide

As for your business structure, that depends on how much you expect to net each year. For those earning $100,000 or $200,000, you might form an offshore LLC because it’s easier and less expensive to report to the IRS. If you earn $200,000+, or might earn this amount, you should choose an offshore corporation.

If you’re internet marketing business is netting $1 million or more, and you can employ at least 5 employees, you should consider the US territory of Puerto Rico. This island gives you a 4% tax rate which, when compared to the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion available to US persons in foreign countries, can be a better deal for high profit businesses.
