Fun Things You Can Do in the Cold World of Antarctica

As you may know, there are lots of beautiful places in the world, such as the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. From island hopping to exploring the wonders of nature, traveling overseas is one of life’s great experiences. However, there’s one place that is very underrated, known as the world’s least visited location. This is none other than the cold world of Antarctica.

First and foremost, why am I talking about Antarctica?

According to some sources, Antarctica’s freezing temperature averages around -49 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low ever recorded was -56 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you are a digital nomad or a frequent overseas traveler to exotic places, you might need to check this one out. You know why? It may be the world’s coldest continent, but there are some fun things you can do here. The world is changing, and it is time to explore a bit more about this rare place.

Without further ado, here are some fun things that a traveler can do in the cold world of Antarctica:

1 – Experience the Zodiac Antarctica cruise

I know there are lots of cruises where you can enjoy your time and relax, but the Zodiac Antarctica cruise is something that you’ve never experienced before. Have you ever thought of riding a boat in the world’s coldest continent? If yes, I would dare you to experience this one-of-a-kind ride.

However, the Zodiac cruise is not as big as the other cruises that you may have experienced. It only allows up to 12 people, because the boat is so small and it can take you through some smaller passageways in the continent that larger boats couldn’t access. You will feel like you are living in the Ice Age during your Zodiac cruise!

2 – Meet the real “Happy Feet”

If you love the movie Happy Feet, Antarctica is the right place for you. One of the reasons why Antarctica could be a beloved attraction is because of the penguins. Best of all, you can engage and take pictures with them!

The penguins are very friendly as long you don’t scare them. You can feed them and they will even jump on your back if you lie down. You may never see penguins like this elsewhere. Don’t forget to pack some warm jackets!

3 – Kayaking and camping

It is typical for tourists like me to do some camping and kayaking when traveling. Of course, I usually kayak in warm island locations. However, kayaking in Antarctica can provide a completely unique experience to warm-weather rowing.

To be honest, I have never experienced camping in a cold world yet. If you don’t know how to set up a bonfire, you may not want to visit this place at all. It is essential that you bring some wood and other materials to keep you warm for extended periods of time.

4 – Wildlife that you’ve never seen before

Aside from the penguins, you may see some creatures that are not present in other continents (except if they’re caged in a zoo or performing in a circus). You can see whales, birds, and seals in their natural habitat.

5 – Deception Bay swimming

If you think that swimming in Antarctica is impossible due to its freezing temperature, think again. There’s one place that you can swim in Antarctica without worrying, and it’s no other than the Deception Bay.

In Deception Bay, you may experience some warm water because it’s the volcano’s “caldera.” As a result, the water is naturally temperate and can provide a relaxing relief from the harsh surroundings.

Final Words

Antarctica may be the least visited place on Earth, but going there is something unforgettable and worth it. I believe that Antarctica could soon become one of the most beloved destinations among adventurous travelers.
