Are You on the Guest List?

The most exclusive Italian destination, one that is only open to visitors twice a year, is opening today! Can you guess what it is?

It’s an island!

Montecristo is so protected by Italy that it only welcomes visitors two periods during the year. The island in the Mediterranean Sea is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park where visitors can enjoy beautiful biodiversity. This island is so exclusive that only four people live on it, including two groundskeepers and two members of the forestry unit.

No one is allowed to fish on the island nor transit closer than one kilometer from the shore.

If you want to visit Montecristo, you better act fast. From August 1 to August 15, and later from August 31 to October 31, tourists and visitors will be able to enjoy its beauty, and only with special permission. Only 1000 people a year receive said permission.

Good luck!

Expats Feel the Burn of High Rent

Asia offers so many wonderful cities for expats but it may come at a pretty penny, especially in Hong Kong, which ranks as the most expensive Asian destinations for renters for the fifth year in a row. According to the latest Accommodations Survey by ECA International, the price of rentals is so high in Hong Kong due to high demand and a low supply of mid-range properties.

The full list is as follows:

  1. Hong Kong
  2. Tokyo
  3. Shanghai
  4. Seoul
  5. Mumbai
  6. Beijing
  7. Yokohama
  8. Singapore
  9. Osaka
  10. Metro-Manila

Other significant cities to note are Singapore, which dropped down to spot number eight due to a slowing down of economic growth, and Mumbai, which rose three places since last year. The demand in Mumbai has also risen and expats in the city are now competing for properties in more sought-after areas.

As Brexit Approaches, Retirees are Worried

It has been confirmed by the government that 220,000 UK citizens of retirement age living abroad may lose access to their pension after Brexit.Consumer Resource Guide

A notice was published on August 23 stating how financial services will be affected in the worst case scenarios when the UK officially leaves the EU. Among the services affected, British expats could lose the ability to access lending and deposit services and insurance contracts, since UK firms could lose the right to passport into the European Economic Area.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there are 900,000 British expats living in the EU, 220,000 of which are 65 or older.

Industry leaders are urging government officials to agree on a deal as a matter of emergency.

No More Trips to the Bathroom to Stretch Your Legs

The way we think of travel may soon change. Have you ever been on a long trip but hated all the layovers? Or what about a long flight? Leg cramps? Could that be a problem of the past?

Qantas Airways Ltd. is planning a nonstop flight from Sydney to London, a trip halfway around the planet, that will take 20 hours. If the length of the flight makes your legs a little nervous, fear not. This airbus, that will be able to hold 300 passengers, may feature bunks for sleeping and even a gym!

Known as Project Sunrise, the plan for the nearly full day trip will fly passengers and their luggage farther than any regular service in existence ever.

If all goes according to plan, the project hopes to have an aircraft ready to take off by 2022.
