| Why A New Nation? |

In
April of 1939 the New York World's Fair, "Building The World of Tomorrow,"
opened on what was once a marshy wasteland in Flushing Meadows, just east
of the great metropolis. From its inception to its closing ceremonies,
the Fair promoted one of the last great metanarratives of the Machine Age:
the unqualified belief in science and technology as a means to economic
prosperity and personal freedom. Wedged between the greatest economic
disaster in America and the growing international tension that would result
in World War II, The World of Tomorrow was a much-needed antidote to the
depression and confusion of the times. It provided the one saving grace
which all of America needed - it provided hope.

The
1939 - 1940 World's Fair - Was a moment in time when the human race
believed in itself, believed in tomorrow and believed in the unqualified
greatness of humanity. It is our opinion that those innovative thinkers
who want to start a new nation have within them a reflection of the spirit
of that moment in time. We don't know that for a fact; but we'd like
to think it so. A new nation could mean many things... freedom from the
constipated idiocy of the current governments that misrule the worlds nations.
It could mean freedom from taxation, freedom from repression, and the right
to live our lives as we see fit, free from the constraints of politicians.

 Government
of Antarcticland - The
Antarcticland is the oldest territorial domain of the Antarctic continent.
It includes all the lands and islands in section extending from the South
Pole to 60° S latitude between longitudes 90° W and 135° W,
with a total area of 1.554.424, slightly less than the size of Portugal,
Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland all together. "It is administered
by the Government of Anatarcticland and the head of State is the Regent
and Grandmaster of the Sovereign Order of the Antarticland, Sir Giovanni
Caporaso Gottlieb. There is no indigenous nor permanetly resident population,
but the knights patrol the area during the austral summer. The country
has its own legislative system, together with legal, economic and postal
administrations. Any person may become citizen simply by applying and swearing
alliegance to the Constitution. Revenue from administrative fees and the
sale of postage stamps means that it is financially self sufficient. The
government is in negotiations with several groups of investors to develop
the first ice hotel and city in the Antarctic. |

 Independent
Kingdom of Hay-on-Wye
- In a world increasingly ruled by impenetrable bureaucracy, and self-interested
big business organizations, the Kingdom of Hay was created as an alternative
to embrace the good humoured common sense of ordinary intelligent people,
which of course ought to be the basis of good government everywhere, always
! More a publicity stunt than an actual secession, the little Welsh village
of Hay-on-Wye (located in Powys County in Wales and bordering Herefordshire
County in England, through which the village's mail passes) proclaimed
"independence" on 1 April 1977, establishing Richard George William Pitt
Booth, owner of Europe's largest second-hand bookstore, as Richard the
First, King of Hay (He rested the mantle of Prime Minister on his horse).
The publicity stunt appears to have done wonders for the village's economy,
and is now the site of an annual book fair. |

 Republic
of Rose Island -
Now-Demolished Fixed Platform Off-Shore of Italy] (Isle of the Roses, Isola
delle Rose, (Respubliko de la) Insulo de la Rozoj) This was a much publicized
but ill-fated attempt of artifical island sovereignty off the coast of
Italy in a section of the Adriatic Sea that was only 2 meters deep (44°
10' 48" North, 12° 36' 00" East, 11 km from Rimini and 500 m outside
the Italian territorial waters) . Built by Italian engineer Georgio Rosa,
it was a 400 square meter platform that proclaimed independence in 1968,
had Esperanto as it's official language, and issued postage stamps. Independence
was proclaimed on 22 June 1968, but on 16 August, the Italian government
seized the platform. In the Spring of 1969, the platform was destroyed
by Italian authorities, sending it into the Adriatic with dynamite charges
making it one of only three nation-states in recorded history to be wiped
from the map due to a single military action (The other two being Carthage
and Danzig). |

- The United Micronations Multi-Oceanic Archipelago (UMMOA) (Italian: Arcipelago
Multi-Oceanico delle Micronazioni Unite; Interlingua: Archipelago Multi-Oceanic
del Micronationes Unite or AMOMU) is a multi-oceanic archipelago governed
by a federation of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth World nations. The 11 insular
possessions have no indigenous population, and an inhabitable area of 34.3
km² (13.3 mi²). Since 2008, the islands have been claimed by
a quasi-federation of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth World nations on the basis
of International and Cesidian law. On 6 May 2008, the UMMOA legally invaded
the U.S. namespace, and annexed the original 9 or 11 insular possessions
formerly known as the United States Minor Outlying Islands. On 22 July
2008, UMMOA has achieved the recognition of all governments and nations
members of the International States Parliament for Safety and Peace. |

non-territorial state and global sovereignty advocacy. Micronations: The
Lonely Planet Guide to Home-Made Nations describes Atlantium as "a refreshing
antidote to the reactionary self-aggrandisement of so many micronations",
and "an extremely sophisticated nation-state experiment, as well as an
entirely serious claimant to legitimate statehood". The book's entry on
Atlantium notes its espousal of "progressive, liberal policies" and characterizes

of Bohemia - The Duchy
of Bohemia is an independent and sovereign micronation under the governance
of the putative Duke of Bohemia and Lord of Rozmberk. The Duchy operates
as a government in exile, its rightful heritary territories presently under
occupation by the Czech Republic. The Duchy's present government in exile
and its current territorial enclave is located within the United States
of America. The Rosenbergs (in Czech "Rozmberk") are considered among the
most significant, venerable, noble and influential of the Bohemian noble
families. Their members held posts at the Bohemian and imperial court of
the Holy Roman Empire, and so went down in the history of the area in a
significant way. The emblem of this family was represented by a red five-petalled
rose in a green field which is still often seen in a considerable part
of South Bohemia. It was the Rosenbergs who influenced to a great extent
the appearance of South Bohemia |

ancient and sovereign feudal Barony of Caux was granted to Hugo le Corbeau
in the Pays de Caux by William son of Rollo, Duke of Normandie in 1040
CE. The Barony was confirmed on his son Roger FitzCorbet in Shropshire
by William son of Rollo, Duke of Normandie and King of England in 1069
CE. The sovereign status of the Barony, free of royal oversight of Baronial
affairs, was reconfirmed on his grandson William Corbet in Shropshire by
Henry II, Count of Anjou and Pretender to the Throne of England in 1165
CE. The Sovereign Barony of Caux (SBC) was restituted on August 27, 2001
CE, by His Lordship, John I, first and thirty-seventh Baron of Caux, of
the Corbet family. |

of Hutt River - Hutt
River is an Independent Sovereign State having seceded from Australia on
the Twenty First Day of April 1970 and is of comparable size to Hong Kong
(not the New Territories). The Principality consists of undulating farmland
well covered in places with a wealth of shrubs and glorious wildflowers.
H.R.H. Prince Leonard, a keen supporter of both the Arts and Conservation,
has named parts of the Principality with such identities as Lake Beginning,
Mount Secession, Lake Serenity and Wild Boar Gorge. His town site,
Nain, has been developed with many buildings to provide facilities for
the tourists who visit in their thousands each year. These facilities include
The Administration Building containing the Government Office and Post Office,
Tea Rooms with Swimming Pool and a charming Inter-Denominational Chapel
as well as the arcade housing the Memorabilia Dept. and Historical Society
displays and the Sovereigns Reception building. |

of New Utopia - proposes
to build a new city-state in the Caribbean Sea, upon piers on the top of
a submerged mountain. The nation of New Utopia will be a principality,
regulated by a formal declaration of sovereignty and a constitution, somewhat
resembling the Principality of Monaco. "The purpose of government is to
protect freedoms through the preservation of internal order, the provision
of national defence, and the administration of justice. When government
interferes with the work of the market economy, it tends to reduce the
moral and physical strength of the nation; that when it takes from one
man to bestow on another, it diminishes the incentive of the first, the
integrity of the second, and the moral autonomy of both." |

acquired a life of its own, and now exists to bring like-minded nations
and multi-national ecology groups together, to continue to express ourselves
ecologically. Is TorHavn a real country? Depends on what you call "real."
Currently, TorHavn is non-territorial (technically, but we have plans),
At the moment, TorHavn exists more as a culture than as a state; we are
an intentional community in the making (officially, but we are also seriously
looking into buying land). Once we have land, TorHavn would exist within
the territory of the United States as a state within a state, much like
the Navajo Nation does. |
