Launching a
new life on the high seas: home
aboard Eris Island -
by Kiana Delamare, "Now we live in an even more magical place called Eris
Island,
a 50-foot sloop. As I write, we're poised to set sail for the Bahamas,
waiting for clear weather so we might embark on the Caribbean
adventure
we've been dreaming of, and planning for. We've been working up to this
moment for some years, in fact."

So, You Want

The Eyes Of A Transplanted American ~
by David Reeve - I have compiled the following pages for your enjoyment,
with the help from my wife Andria. She is a native born Bahamian, who spent
25 years living in the United States, while I am an American.I wrote this
E-Book it to assist people who might desire to move to the Commonwealth
of the Bahamas and to better understand the people and lifestyle. The Bahamas
consists of over 700 islands of which approximately 34 are inhabited. June/04

The Lost Continent
Found on Paradise - The
Lost Continent Found on Paradise - Paradise Island is a small
spit of Bahamian earth in Nassau Harbor connected to the mainland of New
Providence by two entry and exit bridges vaulting pastel condos, resorts,
and marinas. Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, is also the common name
for all of New Providence. People say they’ll retire to Nassau; students
come to Nassau to party and couples are wed here. April/06

made a lot easier when you have someone who knows the ropes. Jerry Ritter
knows the ropes better than anyone we know. He tells us about the Grand
Bahamas. It comes as a surprising to some that the Bahamas actually consist
of over 700 islands. Some of them are gems. If we lived there and had a
boat we could see them all -- one day at a time.

Once Again ~ In
Bangladesh ~ by Rajdeep Bhattacharjee - Since I made a trip to the
Sunderbans National Park on the Indian side last summer, I decided to see
the Bangladesh side of the park this summer. As all trips to Sunderbans
National Park in Bangladesh are by group package, it was difficult for
me as I a single foreigner to fulfill my wish. I did check various websites
and after all the crosschecking found Green Channel Tour Operators, whose
itinerary looked interesting. Jan/06

A plunging
euro makes Bruges property affordable (almost) – if
you act quickly - Why on earth hadn’t I thought of it before? Bruges
is one of those places that stops you in your tracks, a perfectly preserved
medieval city where every street and building murmurs “photo opportunity.”
Unless their job takes them there, relatively few Americans think of relocating
to Belgium. Yet the strong dollar has brought many hitherto “expensive’’
European countries within reach. The big surprise was that property was
so affordable... by Steenie Harvey

long-term rental in northern Europe - Although I love living in Ireland,
I have a bad case of wanderlust and a taste for foreign foods. I love to
poke around markets when I travel, particularly if I have the use of a
kitchen where I can cook local dishes. Renting is a good option, and I've
always found that it ends up being much cheaper than a lengthy hotel stay.

Gothic Ghent ~ Travels
In Belgium ~ Written & Photographed By Sam Mills - I
had never seen a real guillotine before, but here, in the Museum of Torture
in the too aptly named Castle of the Counts, was a real, live, working
model. And, ghoul that I am, I was fascinated. Circling the beast, I checked
out the weight of the heavy, rust-pitted blade, noting how ingeniously
it had been cut on a bias to better perform its grisly work.

Our Man in
Bermuda - Moving
to Bermuda - Edel Kinsella is a PA/ Secretary from Dublin, London,
and Jersey. She writes, "I'd been looking for a contract abroad and was
offered one in Saudi Arabia and Bermuda at about the same time. I
chose Bermuda primarily to experience some hot, sunny weather for a change
– I was getting tired of freezing my butt off in Ireland, trudging around
in rain and sleet, having also been through a stormy, inclement winter
in Jersey. This, then, is my settling-in story on the lovely island of
Bermuda. For me it's always been fun, exciting, and challenging; they're
the things that make life good.”

the plunge and accepted an IT position in Bermuda. It has been a year of
trials, tribulations, and great fun. I have made some great friends, lived

A Trip Within
A Journey ~ In
Bolivia ~ by Kyle Hammons - In the last issue of Escape from
America magazine, I shared my adventures on Peru’s famed Inca Trail to
Machu Pichu. A brilliant trail that is certainly among the best in the
world, the Inca Trail’s popularity has become so overwhelming that wait
lists can often hinder independent travel plans and deter from the excitement
of spontaneous travel. So in this issue I want to take a look back at the
two weeks awarded to me when overcrowding on the Inca Trail left me stranded
in Cusco. Though inconvenient at the time, those two weeks allowed me an
opportunity to view some of the most fascinating cultures in one of the
world’s most beautiful lakes. Oct./05

The natural assumption is ESL. I ,however am a university math professor
and my Spanish is good enough to give classes in Spanish. My wife who is
actually a nurse by profession, also gave elementary school classes in
a small English speaking school. Together we could bring in about $ 1100
per month. It is very easy to live on this amount in Bolivia. As a comparison,
my wife was offered a 48 hour a week nursing job at $ 120 a month. It is
also possible to survive on this wage."

Bolivian Safari
~ Salar
de Uyuni, Bolivia ~ by Mark McMahon - The far southwest corner of Bolivia
is home to some of the most bizarre and extreme landscapes in the world.
By far the world's largest salt flat and some other very interesting geology
make it and unforgettable place to visit. The harsh and inhospitable environment
also make the visit hard to forget. Bitter cold and blistering sun made
comfort a sparse commodity on the four-day adventure. Oct./04

Rent Free In The World's Highest Capital - La Paz, Bolivia - A strategy
to live rent free in Bolivia by Martin Li. In addition, writes Martin,
"You can buy a three-bedroom chalet in Santa Cruz, centrally located in
the 2nd/3rd anillos (ring roads), with two bathrooms, garden and garage
for two cars, for US$47,500. If you are prepared to move out slightly further,
to the 4th/5th anillos, a similar investment will get you a four-bedroom,
three-bathroom house with patio and garage. And if location close to the
city center is not that important to you, a three-bedroom chalet in one
of the outer anillos can cost as little as US$13,000. - This article first
appeared in the January 2001 issue of Escape From America Magazine.

of the grassland we raise cattle without using any feed, pesticides or

Through Bolivia
~ Riding
My Bike On The World's Most Dangerous Road ~ By Mark McMahon - There
are some great photos in this article. They show you what it might feel
like to bike down a dangerous road in the mountains of Bolivia. There is
also a lot of information about where to stay and how to join the kind
of bike tour described in the article. Bolivia is a country that has great
extremes: the browns of the altiplano and the green jungle on the Brazilian
and Paraguayan borders. The people have always been friendly to me and
that's important in a country where, depending on which city you're in,
your body may be acclimating itself to the pressures of altitude sickness.
Enjoy your time in Bolivia and stay away from the drop. May/03

Best Kept Secret ~ by Maryam Manteghi - You don’t have to be an adventurer
to appreciate the unique beauties of Bosnia and Herzegovina. While the
name evokes memories of a war-torn past, today’s BiH is the country all
the ex-humanitarian workers come back to visit again and again. Bosnia’s
natural beauties and wonders are unparalleled. A country of rugged hills,
mountains, rivers and lakes, eco-tourism has become all the rage here with
opportunities for river rafting, mountain climbing, skiing and paragliding
in an untouched, pristine natural wonderland. Mar/05 |
