Years On Margarita Island, Venezuela ~ Making A Business And Living In
The Caribbean
by Peter van der
Hoek - After living some ten years on Margarita Island I can truly give
an honest opinion about life here. First of all let me tell you that life
on an island, especially a tropical one, is incomparable to life anywhere
else! The daily routine is slow paced no matter how important the stuff
you have to do. There is after all, always tomorrow. Because of the always
shining sun people are chronically in a good mood and laid back. Everybody’s
willing to help you with about everything as long as you aren’t in a hurry
to do so. Jan/05 business opportunities

In Greece ~ Working In Greece
by Niki McElroy
- As an American, can I live and work in Greece? Well, in brief yes if
you are of Greek descent, and yes to the first and no to the second if
you are not. This little treatise is not directed at those who have Greek
heritage but rather those wishing to live in Greece (specifically Crete)
without having to work here. Because America is outside the European Union,
Americans can not freely take up a job here. Nov./05

- Doing Business in Belize -Business in Belize:From Donuts to Dot.com |
| By Bill and
Claire Gray - The simplicity and ease with which one can start a business
in Belize lets many people do something they have always wanted to try
but weren’t able to back home. Being free from all the bureaucratic red
tape, and expensive, complicated procedures, frees a person to put
all their creative energy into their business. We love seeing owners of
even the smallest of businesses empowered like this. In the developing
world no one expects anything from the government and so they know they
either have to get out there and earn money at something or
live off the food they have growing in their yard and the fish they can
catch. Sept./02 |

knowing a few of the basics will go along way to smoothing the path to

Exclusion Eliminated ~ Expats Must Pay U.S. And Foreign Taxes |
| By Steven
Y.C. Kang - The exclusion rule may be over for all expats with U.S. citizenship.
If you are an expat you may end up paying not only local taxes in the country
you reside in, but you might also have to pay Uncle Sam something. That
could mean two-thirds of your income will go to taxes. And where
does all that tax money go. May/03 |

Money Overseas - Writing eBooks For EscapeArtist.com |
| What we're
looking for are ideas, not Pulitzer Prize writers. Ideas are what fuel
our magazine and our website. Now we want to expand that concept into eBooks
for expats. You don't have to be a professional writer to submit a report
that provides important information - - information that you yourself have
learned by having been there and done it. That is exactly what our readers
are seeking, facts about living overseas from people who've done it. Yes,
you can make money from a good report or two... possibly a lot. |

is well served by business and communications infrastructure and is a dynamic
economy; the government actively encourages foreign investment and offshore
activity through the Ministry of Industry & Commerce. The ministry
operates a one stop shop for clearances and permits; it also provides assistance
in identifying market outlets, joint venture partners, site locations,
and buildings. There is a wide range of investment incentives for
inward investment. Free Trade Zones and a Freeport were established in
1992 enabling up to 100% foreign owned enterprises. Money laundering is
discouraged by the government, as is any trade in guns or drugs. The Economic
Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2000 established an Economic Crime
Office. |

A Business In Rome ~ One Expatriate’s Observations |
| by Sarah Yeomans
- My first impression of Rome was that it was a lawless land, where you
could make up the rules as you went along, as long as it didn’t attract
the attention of the occasionally alert police officer or government official.
Everything around me seemed to reinforce this impression, from the “creative”
parking solutions, such as parking on a curb, to the seemingly helter-skelter
methods of immigration control. Sept./04 |

in Mozambique |
| I stayed mostly
with an Afrikaner who had staked out 20 hectares (50 acres) of beautiful
beach about an hour out of town; his cost basis is basically zero. The
government gave it to him because he committed to develop it for tourism;
someday it's going to be worth what prime beach front just outside a city
is worth anywhere else in the world. He'll fill his property with Germans
and Swedes flying down to beat the European winter while taking advantage
of fresh lobster and fish that cost almost nothing. And there aren't just
hundreds, but thousands of miles of pristine deserted beach on this country's
coast. |

A Business In Spain - Buying A Bar |
| by Samantha
Hornick - Ever wondered about buying a bar in Spain? Last year alone, a
record number of ex-pats left their home towns for a new life abroad, and
75,000 of them bought properties in Spain, a figure which is expected to
rise to 100,000 in 2005. There is little mystery as to why Spain has become
such a popular destination for those seeking a new life. For many Spain
is the perfect choice with year round sunshine and a better quality of
life overall. But the biggest dilemma facing most potential émigrés
is finding work abroad and the one dream most of them share is to own and
run a bar in the sun. Buying your own bar is the most appealing and low
cost option for those wishing to move abroad and ´do their own thing´.

Laurent spends a lot of time on his bike negotiating narrow Paris streets,

the Tour de France. We turn a lot of heads," said Laurent. At 26, this
Franco-American is managing director of Breakaway Courier Systems France,
a subsidiary of the parent company based in New York City. Laurent was
born in France but did most of his growing up in the US. During a junior
year exchange program in Rouen, he fell I in love with his native country
as well as a girl. |

To Do Business In Europe - Where To Invest In Europe |
| by Jurgen
Klemann - After living for loads of years in New Zealand and South Africa,
there is no doubt for me that I am now more fluent in English than in German.
When I do not deliberately speak English, German or Spanish, words come
out of my mouths automatically in English. Every now and then I am aware
that I know the word for something in British, American, South African
and New Zealand English but need a few seconds to recall the German word.
Who cares? I cannot help it. July/04 |
