This page seemed like a good idea eight or nine years ago. Maybe it is still is, so we leave it on the website. But the offshore medical school section attracts more attention. Sure, it's nice to know where hospitals are, and that hospitals are there, but you'd also like to know how they're rated. You can't ask a taxi driver, and only those who've stayed in a hospital can give you a unbiased report, if not an objective medical analysis.  Most of us who've traveled extensively, or live overseas, have experienced hospitals abroad. Some have been a pleasant surprise, with dedicated doctors who go the extra mile for their patients.  Others have been a disaster.  Someone should update this section on a weekly basis, but it's sort of like the situation with Yahoo and their old directory; they hide it and hope you won't find it, because it cost money to update it, and it doesn't make them any money to have it. What good are directories?  Google destroyed their purpose (along with Yahoo), and the directories that didn't go offline, Google destroyed by putting them on page three of search results. Who are you going to complain to? We feel there is an important place for directories still, they might prevent you from having your appendix removed in a dog and cat hospital in Tegucigalpa, so for that reason alone we'll leave this page online.

Health Care in Vanuatu - Travelers to Vanuatu should also have international medical insurance. International insurance will cover selected medical costs should there be an emergency while on vacation – one important item to look for in an insurance policy is medical evacuation, which will transport patients to major cities in Australia and New Zealand, such as Brisbane or Sydney. In the event of a serious accident or trauma, patients will be flown out to such locations in order to receive necessary treatment from medical centres equipped to handle serious conditions and traumas. Another important factor in purchasing medical insurance – especially if you are visiting – is to find an insurance plan that pays for your expenses to travel home, in the event you need to leave Vanuatu unexpectedly or sooner than planned. While no one would like to think of being in a serious accident on vacation or suffering from a severe ailment or condition, preparation for such an event is always recommended. Medical evacuations are very costly, so an insurance plan will help lower potential costs. Residents may purchase private health insurance from local offices around Vanuatu to cover the costs of medical accommodations, ambulance, air transportation and treatments. The annual premium cost of private insurance depends on the age of the individual.

Medical Tourism Fraud Exposed  -  Medical Tourism.  It’s about matching your medical and dental needs with the most qualified providers, right?  Or is the patient outcome secondary to making the sale? Expose - Travel agents masquerading as medical tourism facilitators - Travel agents have no business trying to do the match-making.  Match - making by means of searching for “best deals” price-wise does not serve the patient well.  Agents don’t have the expertise medical and health care professionals bring to the table to control the delivery of the service. What a travel agent can do is wrap a vacation tour around your medical travel, and even then they need to be subject experts in the specific needs of medical travelers. Convention Bureaus promoting city destinations - Convention bureaus and their marketing partners are promoting city medical services to tourists on the basis of inexpensive procedures and accommodations wrapped in a vacation package. Some may say that’s all right; certainly promoters and marketers with something to gain by the sale think that’s all right. I understand it’s the job of convention bureaus to drive business to their cities.  Nevertheless, that practice puts the burden of selecting a doctor or dentist on the patient who does not have the expertise to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing a doctor, dentist, or medical facility and often will choose on the price of a medical vacation package on the assumption that all doctors or hospitals are equal in terms of patient outcome.
