| I drew a magic square in the palm
of Yaqub's right hand, told him to make a hollow of it, and into the center
I poured a pool of ink. I asked him if he saw himself clearly reflected
in it, and he answered that he did ~ |

Buying Property in Brazil - Teresópolis In The Serra dos Órgãos
- Buying
Property in Brazil - Brazil is a vast country
and real-estate bargains can be found anywhere, from the beaches worth
fifteen Floridas in the Northeast to the high-rise condominiums of São
Paulo. I chose Teresópolis because I had friends there and had come
upon a bargain in a town of spectacular climate and views, situated close
to the world-class city of Rio de Janeiro. I had cash in-hand by virtue
of having just sold an over-appraised 1060 sq. ft. home in Austin, Taxes. |

How To Buy A Castle In The Former East German States - Buying
A Castle In Europe - As an incentive to buyers to rebuilt and
renovate these historic castles and manor houses in their original form
the governments of the various states are offering grants which are available
to investors, not as loans, but as incentives which never have to be paid
back. The average amount of such a grant is about $250,000.-- . |
Progreso ~ Mexico ~ Yucatan - Progreso
~ Yucatan: One Couple Finds Paradise - We found out that Progreso was
THE place to spend summer vacations for the wealthy of Merida and Mexico
City before Hurricane Gilbert 13 years before. There were many grand
old houses along the malecon that just needed some TLC to breathe life
into them. The beaches were pleasant, as were the onshore breezes
in the afternoon. The people were a delight. During that brief stay
we found cheap flights advertised between Merida and Mexico City, only
4.0 hrs. From SMA and we began to think we could make this work for a vacation
home.

Buying Property in the South of France? Great Idea! - Buying
Property in the South of France - There is an
abundant demand for farmhouses, either ruins or recently abandoned, for
renovation. One must know what to look for, how to estimate its value and
how to negotiate a price that will not bankrupt them. For example, that
rustic farmhouse at the end of the long, winding gravel road nears a copse
of woods within an idyllic setting. Is it really worth what they are asking?
Well, if you don't see any electricity lines strung down to the house,
you might ask. Bringing in electricity can seriously increase renovation
costs. |
Nova Scotia: From a Brit Perspective - Moving
To Nova Scotia - Living In Nova Scotia - So where is Nova Scotia, most
would ask. Well it’s a quick five hour flight from the UK, three from Iceland
and a mere two and a half hour ferry trip from Maine in the States. Resembling
rural England but with forests, it lies on the eastern seaboard of Canada,
much like an island connected by an umbilical cord to the Motherland. The
climate and seasons are much like the UK but with slightly more extreme
temperatures, not at all what most imagine the Country to be.

| A Reader Writes: I love to
hear about Vanatu in Tonga. BUT I think it was your newsletter that published
a real estate alert about a Central American country that didn't give buyers
clear title and you said you would never mislead your readers and so you
exposed this. Guess What? Tonga does does not give give clear title to
any land whatsoever. Not even to it's native citizens! All land is owned
by the KING and every National is given use of family plots. In some cases
you can lease these plots from a local who does not own them at all. |

Packing for Camp America - (The Patriots Act) - David
Tanzer Talks About Loss Of Freedom In America - Just this past weekend
when I walked through yet another airport security checkpoint and politely
questioned an inspector's handling of my personal healthcare items in an
unhealthy manner, she was quick to summon the police standing guard who
threatened me with a delay that would cause me to miss my flight if I wasn't
more cooperative. I'd had enough. Only after I patiently pointed out that
I was a retired litigation lawyer and previously sat on the bench as a
judge, and that the officer's actions were an abuse of process which could
result in a civil suit against him, did he back down from his heavy handed
threats and became suddenly apologetic.
