I
met my other half on a warm summer day at an Amusement Park, the least
likely of places. I had no real attraction to Latin American individuals
prior. I was not exactly racist either, neutral. I have to admit, I do
like new cultures though. We met, went out on a few dates, you know the
story. We fell for each other. Our friends never though it would last since
we were young (23-24) and to everyones surprise it did. We were not married
at the time. We simply were not ready. Unfortunately my significant others
visa expired. She neglected to tell me, I can't blame her. It probably
would of cost us the relationship. Long Distance Relationships tear families
apart, they don't work well. We went out as if nothing had happened. It
was a Monday morning and she left for work, just like any other Monday
morning. We were upset with each other so I didn't say good-bye. I went
to work that same day, expecting to see her when I got home. At about two
in the afternoon I get a text message from her. It read as follows...
"Te Amo." - I love you. Followed directly by another.... "Me
van a deportar" - They are going to deport me. - An

What
You Need To Know About Living In El Salvador: A Forgotten Beauty ~ By Phil
Davies - El
Salvador is one of those countries that most people either ignore or know
nothing about or are fearful to visit. And then you talk to people who
can talk about nothing but El Salvador and why you should visit or move
there. The country does have some stunning spots and the economy has picked
up as the political problems of the 70s and 80s have faded. Now might be
El Salvador's time. There are 3 major cities, San Salvador, San Miguel,
and Santa Ana, but I will mostly tell you about life in San Salvador. Tourism
is just beginning to pick up, so investment here could be good. Right off,
I should warn you that you will have to speak at least basic Spanish. English
here is not used a lot, but some lawyers, doctors, and engineers do speak
English very well.

Living in Central America: A Primer - I
love Central America! Many people choose a Central American country for
their final ex-pat destination. But there are several basics you
really need to know before you take the plunge and move to Central America
to join the hundreds of thousands of other American ex-pats already living
here. Central America is the region between Mexico and Panama and includes
Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. All
six countries have large ex-pat populations. Each has it’s advantages
and disadvantages. In general, the further South you go, the more
services exist, but also the higher the cost of living.

Opportunities
for Voluntourism In El Salvador & Globally
- Voluntourism’s global specialist, Planeterra, announces new 2010 projects
and volunteer vacations including onsite work at the world’s largest Panda
reserve in China’s Sichuan Province and a bring-the-kids family adventure
on an organic farm along the coast of Ecuador. Planeterra’s Director, Richard
G. Edwards said that more than ever, “community development, environmental
and wildlife conservation projects around the world need the support of
active travelers who are willing to take the time to understand what is
needed and how they can help. Our programs are designed with great care,
so that everyone genuinely benefits, while having fun learning about each
other’s cultures.” Of the eleven new programs for 2010, five are Independent
Tours, which provide optimum flexibility for travelers (projects in Argentina,
Brazil, Peruvian Amazon, Ecuadorian Highlands and Project Cuzco Kids).
These trips depart weekly, throughout the year, and can be easily combined
with other adventure travel tours booked through founding partner, Gap
Adventures. 2010 also brings Planeterra’s launch of family programs with
a new voluntour in Ecuador.

50,000
Americans Have Escaped to Beautiful Costa Rica
- Next year, the first of the 79 million Baby Boomers will turn 65, an
age which is generally considered to be ‘retirement age.’ Many Baby Boomers
thought they would be able to retire comfortably, but in the sobering economic
downturn of the past three years, they have now faced the hard-cold-fact
that they may not be able to retire at all, in the US. But Boomers will
not settle for just a ‘cheaper place to live,’ they want to live in a safe
and stable country (Costa Rica is a politically neutral democracy), live
in a supportive community, have excellent and inexpensive healthcare, and
be able to hire affordable household ‘help,’ which many cannot do in the
US.

The
advantages of Living Overseas: a new and refreshing way to look at Offshore
- Edmund J. Pankau writes about the broader meaning of offshore, this time
in terms of the real advantages to the ordinary person seeking a lower
cost of living, a better quality of life, reasonable and fantastic real
estate, lower taxes, and ground floor business opportunities. "In recent
years, Central America has become the Florida, California and Arizona of
the 1950’s. Remember when you could buy beachfront property in Florida
for a song? When prices in California were dirt cheap? Well, those
days are now in full bloom just a little further south of the border.
The slower paced climate of Central American has awakened to the realization
that is can revitalize its economy by becoming the retirement center of
the western world. All of the things that made Florida and California boom
are now happening in Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica, as is starting to
emerge, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador and Guatemala."
