Entry
into American Medical Schools is hampered by AMA quotas. Ward
Dean M.D. of The Center for Bio-Gerontology, Pensacola, FL spoke
out on this issue in an
article entitled Solving the Medical Care Crisis in the United States with
a Free Market Approach. In this article he stated,
"Open [up the] enrollments in medical, nursing, and other health-care related
fields like X-ray, laboratory technology, physical therapy, etc., to allow
all qualified applicants to enroll. Acceptance into medical, nursing, and
other schools in the health care field is very competitive. For example,
there are probably 10-20 qualified applicants for every vacancy in medical
school. Most nursing schools have 2-3 year waiting periods (despite an
alleged chronic shortage of nurses). Many highly motivated and talented
people wind up going into other fields. If there are not enough vacancies,
or not enough schools to accommodate the demand, the class sizes should
be increased, or more schools should be built!" We agree with Dr.
Dean - Until his advice is taken, if it is, students have the option of
attending foreign medical schools rather than abandoning their dream.

Xavier
School of Medicine in Aruba
- The Xavier University School of Medicine at Aruba was founded to
train students in the art of medicine using a US based curriculum. The
entire focus of our program is to ensure students receive the knowledge
they need to successfully enter residencies in the United States as competent
physicians. The biggest challenge medical students' face in medical
school is passing their United States Medical Licensure Examinations, (USMLE
Step 1 and USMLE Step 2). These exams must be successfully completed before
applying to residency. Our basic science curriculum is USMLE-based. The
Xavier University School of Medicine at Aruba has numerous ACGME clinical
clerkships sites; all of which take place in the United States. While
in the US, students are required to attend USMLE board review with KAPLAN.
Students are also required to attend grand rounds, didactics and other
educational programs. Our USMLE based basic science curriculum combined
with our strong US based clinical programs, ensures that all our students
are prepared to successfully negotiate their USMLE Step exams.. MORE

Jobs Survey - I have been conducting
a very informal survey from sources all over the web about what sort of
work opportunities there are for expats who need to generate an income,
which is most of us. Retiring abroad on a pension and a whim simply doesn’t
foot the bills for many, in these times when uncertainty and the lowered
value of the US dollar are taking their toll. Additionally, there has been
a huge youth movement toward the mobility of living and working overseas,
motivated by such catch phrases as “location independence,” and “the digital
nomad.” What I found in my survey is that the various methods of self-support
fall into several general categories. The first category is for skilled
workers who have a good command of the language of the country they are
in, and these kinds of jobs may also necessitate some level of cultural
awareness. They require the most training and offer the best results. Business
management and consulting, sales and marketing, accounting and finance,
computer software and IT, nursing, teaching, and professional translating
all fall into this category. Learning a highly demanded skill, with an
emphasis on multiculturalism, is an excellent career move for just about
anybody in this age of globalization. MORE

Signs that the US Government is Making it Harder For You to Become an Expat
- One of the most common reasons for wanting to expatriate from the
United States is the concern about government overreach. Many feel that
the expansion of government in recent years has been chipping away at the
freedom and liberty that the country was founded upon. What with more and
more agencies, regulations, surveillance, and mandates, the right to privacy
and self - determination is steadily shrinking right along with financial
outlooks. So, are you among the increasing number of people who feel that
the only real solution is to get out of the country? Well, using the exact
same tactics that are driving you away, the government appears intent on
preventing you from leaving. Changes that have recently been put in place
as well as proposals for future changes in rules and regulations might
be intended to discourage. But they might also drive your resolve to take
your destiny into your own hands and do whatever it takes to make your
move overseas.

How
to Launch Your Career Overseas in an Emerging Market
- I’ve conducted extensive internship and job searches on three continents
and I must humbly admit that I’ve received this rejection email in four
different languages. I did everything right. I did everything I was told
to do. I went on the job forums and posted my CV. I applied to all the
right companies with the tailor-made cover letter. I found out the HR representative’s
name and addressed it to her. What else does a guy have to do to get a
job around here? It was time to change my strategy and do something different.
I didn’t care if it wasn’t what I was “supposed” to do, because none of
the “rules” were giving me the result I wanted – a plethora of interview
offers from consultancies in an emerging market. After testing out many
unorthodox strategies, I finally came up with a method that could be replicated
by other people in search of a launch pad for their own emerging market
career. I’ve experienced the entire spectrum of recruitment, human resources,
internships, and full time job offers on many different occasions in many
different countries. The following blueprint is the product of years of
trial and error, repeated failure, and ultimately consistent success. MORE

The
Quest for an Island Paradise - Living On A Philippine Island - By Tanja
Bulatovic - The ultimate goal (albeit vague)
was to rent a cheap house on some tropical island, buy the shells and ship
the containers back to France. The whole routine would take up to
3 or 4 months of the year, leaving plenty of time free to contemplate love,
life and the universe. Once the shells were sold in France (wholesale),
I would receive my commission, which was only a shade above the cost of
purchase, but it didn’t matter. The aim here was lifestyle.
And if I could make enough money to survive in paradise, it was all I needed.
Best of all, Fabrice would join me in a few months (cut to 2 people running
towards each other in slow motion on an exotic beach. He lifts her
up, whirls her around and they finally embrace after their long and torturous
separation). Whatever, you get my drift but you have to admit, the dream
seemed viable. And when passion and freedom are your priority, why not
dream big?

The
Quest for an Island Paradise Part Three – Living On A Philippine Island
- Boracay Unplugged By Tanja Bulatovic
- Boracay is one of those places you can’t help but fall in love with.
Clear, azure waters, wide stretches of powdery white sand, shady palms,
lazy afternoons and sunsets that make everything fall into place. The butterfly-shaped,
picture postcard isle, sits at the northern tip of Panay Island in the
Philippines and despite the tourist amenities along the beach, the place
reads like romantic fiction. Surrounded by tropical flora, fauna, numerous
fish species (including a rare French species called Fabrice), large caves
and coral reefs, the 7km x 1km Island is ideal if you’re looking for the
best of both worlds. Relax and soak up the sun or enjoy more energetic
pursuits such as windsurfing, diving, snorkeling, water skiing and jet
skiing (if you must).

How
To Make Money Overseas As A Writer - ou want
to live overseas. You want to live free. You want to be your own
boss and keep your own hours. The question is how do you make a living.
The first answer that comes to mind is writing. At least that is
the first answer that came to my mind. Writing is a good way to make a
living overseas; travel articles, newspaper stringers, stuff for the folks
back home. It takes practice to write, but it can be learned, just
as one learns to tie their shoes, or stand one leg. It isn't an automatic
process, but what is? Now there is an expat writers course that can
show you the basics... next you'll be living in Paris and sitting
in hip cafes... or maybe you'll be in Budapest writing an ebook.
Check it out.
