Islands
~ From
The Caribbean To The Mediterranean ~ by Dawnelle Salant - Whenever
or wherever I travel, I generally fall in love with some aspect of the
place I am visiting. But one type of destination stands out as a
consistent favorite – islands. Every island I have visited seems to have
a special culture, a certain relaxed atmosphere and its own set of rules
for living. You just know when you’ve stepped onto an island. Dec./04

On The Island Of Antigua ~ A
Canadian Story ~ by Susan Noyce - What happens when you mix French
bread, a Home Depot executive and a Canadian architect together on a Caribbean
island? In Antigua, this has turned out to be a winning combination for
Douglas McVicars and partner Dianne White, who've just opened their fifth
link in a chain of bread and pastry shops. Nov./05
Living
On Antigua And Barbuda ~ Interview
With Greg Urlwin ~ by Susan Noyce - A life at sea sounds like a dream
to many. Others would wish for a mixture of land and ocean. Ferrying people
and cargo between Antigua and Barbuda, Greg Urlwin has found the perfect
blend. In the early 80's, Urlwin decided he wanted to follow in his uncle's
wake, and sail to the Caribbean. Jan/06
US Tax
Information Exchange Agreement with Antigua and Barbuda ~ Another Tax Haven
Falls and the Poverty Gap Widens - Monroe
What? - On December 6, 2001, the governments of the United States and
Antigua and Barbuda signed an agreement for the exchange of information
with respect to taxes. In effect, the Antigua and Barbuda government will
now serve as an enforcement arm of the US Internal Revenue Service, applying
US tax law to US citizens with business there. The agreement will also
restrict the economic growth of that tiny island nation. Is it a blueprint
for the future of tax havens and some developing countries?

Tomb And Other Secrets Of The South Atlantic ~ By Cristy Trembly -
Great article on some little known islands in the South Atlantic. Of course
we know about Napoleon on St. Helena, but what about Jacob's ladder and
Jamestown. Not a place most people think about going to but I want to go
after reading the above article. May/03

Actualities:
Start
a coffee plantation in Guatemala... buy a summer home on the Dalmatian
coast... retire in the Bahamas - New Zealand's unpopular valuables.
The current land boom in Florida has roughly doubled the price of raw land
in the last five years, and people are starting to look elsewhere. I'll
put my money on New Zealand. It's been the cheapest developed country in
the world for the last several years for two reasons: their dollar has
been in a long-term free-fall; and their economy, which runs on wood, wool,
mutton, and dairy products, has been extremely depressed as a result of
all-time lows in commodity prices. Kiwi voters, awhile ago, elected a Labor
government equivalent to the Democrats in the States, reactively blaming
the incumbent Nationals - equivalent to the Republicans, for their problems.
The New Zealand dollar hit a new low of US$0.46 as a result, which is probably
a panic bottom. It's one thing when things are dirt cheap in a Third World
country. But New Zealand looks, feels, and acts like the United States
or Canada, exactly like British Columbia, in fact... (This observation
and much more) |

Freeport,
Grand Bahama - Queen
Of The Bahamas ~ by Joan Harris - For those of you who have not yet
experienced the delights of this fascinating Island I offer a brief background.
Freeport is situated on Grand Bahama Island, the northernmost of the Bahamian
Islands and only 60 miles from Palm Beach. It is nearly l00 miles long
and part of the 700 Islands of the Bahamas known in the main as “cays”.
The beaches on the south side consist of seemingly endless bountiful bays
of soft sifting silver sand with the ocean ranging through shades of ultramarine,
turquoise and palest blue. April/04

Launching
a new life on the high seas - Home
aboard Eris Island - by Kiana Delamare, "Now we live in an even
more magical place called Eris Island, a 50-foot sloop. As I write, we're
poised to set sail for the Bahamas, waiting for clear weather so we might
embark on the Caribbean adventure we've been dreaming of, and planning
for. We've been working up to this moment for some years, in fact."
Life on
Eris Island, part 3 - Setting
sail at long last: glorious days in the Bahamas - Marsh Harbour is
a place that feels welcoming and safe. Unlike in Nassau and Freeport, there
are no big-city bright lights, no fancy resorts or casinos, and, most important
of all, no threat of violent crime. At home aboard Eris Island, afloat
in the Bahamas, I have finally arrived in the world of my dreams. by

Living
In The Bahamas ~ The

Magical
Memories Of An Isolated Desert Island Idyll - All
Free Of Tax ~ by Joan Harris - Seymour (my husband) and I had
become disenchanted with our hectic lives in Westminster, London where
we had worked for 15 years so were ready for the challenge of a desert
island which we purchased in March, 1962. It was named Rudder Cut Cay in
the Southern Bahamas and consisted of 363 virgin acres. I was thrilled
with the seemingly endless white sandy beaches, the turquoise ocean
and was blissfully unaware of the daunting problems which faced us. Seymour,
now retired, was a Civil Engineer/Architect who relished the prospect of
complete freedom and building without impediment or restrictions. Nonetheless,
I was faced with the more mundane matters of ordering non-perishable
food in sufficient quantities to last us for our initial four-month sojourn.

Estate In Bangkok, Bali & The Philippines - I then went to Bangkok,
a hot and crowded place, but my favorite city in this part of the world,
probably even ahead of Hong Kong. Poor planning got me there in the middle
of the Thai New Year, which meant everything was shut down for a week,
and I didn't get a chance to see a lot of property. On the other hand,
the whole city goes wild with a water festival; you walk down any street
and after five minutes you're completely soaked from squirt guns and buckets
of water thrown at you, day or night. It's great fun. Bangkok reminds me
of L.A. without the social problems. If you're thinking of living in the

Paradise On Water ~ Talking
With Expats In Bocas Del Toro ~ By Zvia Leibler-Danon - There has been
a lot of talk over the past few years about Bocas del Toro, located on
Panama's northeastern Caribbean coast. A number of expats are now fulfilling
their dream of living in a tropical paradise by buying property in Bocas.
Find out what it takes to make it in Bocas and what is daily life like
for expats who have made it their home. The water, the sun and the forest
are attracting people all the time. See if Bocas is a place you might want
to settle down in for a couple or years or a spot where you might want
to own some land. June/03

Best Real Estate Investment I've Seen In Twenty Years! In Bocas Del
Toro ~ Waterfront land for $5,000 per acre! Plus it has a cash-flow,
with both Noni and Teak planted on the land. If you've ever wanted
Caribbean waterfront at a bargain price, good land with exotic tropical
fruit and a five-star view, this is it! Twenty minutes from Bocas Town,
an hour and a half from Panama City. August/02.
Bocas
Del Toro Waterfront Land ~ Waterfront
Land Plus Cashflow ~ Caribbean Land, Teak trees, an exotic tropical
fruit, waterfront property, fifteen minutes from Bocas Town, and the price
is right. My calculation a year ago is that even if the property never
made a nickel the land even by itself was a bargain. Tom took a huge
chunk of land and converted it into a Teak & Noni Plantation.
If someone would have tired to buy a few hundred acres they couldn't have
done it. It was a huge block, over a thousand acres... and while
I haven't walked all thousand acres of it, what I have walked has clearly
gone through some dramatic improvements in one years time. In the
photo below you are seeing an area that was covered with dense tropical
foliage and is now a park-like setting covered with Noni. Put a house there,
a summer retreat, a dock, a house over the water, a fishing retreat, a
survival retreat, or just camp out... When we take into consideration
the price these parcels are selling for it is difficult to ignore this
opportunity. Aug/03

Family of Four Follows Its Rainbow To a Remote Island in Panama - Bocas
Del Toro Panama - A Very Hip Place - The hipness of the place is phenomenal.
There is actually a restaurant, called Crawl Key Restaurant, (Or: Kraal
Cay) that is 20 minutes by boat from Bocas town, situated on the southeastern
side of Bastimentos Island, and surrounded by lush mangrove. The island
is in the middle of no place, if one ignores the fact that it is one very
exciting location. April/04
Does Money
Grow on Trees? - Growing
Teak Wood In Bocas Del Toro, Panama - Panama has many advantages for
the investor who chooses trees. Land and labor costs are reasonable.
There are few, if any, property taxes to pay. Under Law 24, future
profits on logs and lumber are exonerated, as is any sales tax. Money,
perhaps, does not really grow on trees, but in Panama many investors are
already proving it comes remarkably close. June/02.

On The Beach And Other Tales Of Living In Paradise - Bocas
del Toro, Panama ~ by Cindy Cody - Every morning when I wake
up, there’s a different picture outside my sliding glass doors on this
lagoon in Bocas del Toro, Panamá. This morning a white mist hovers
over a pearl gray sea, like fine mesh. I feel like the Lady of the Lake,
floating on top of a cloud in my bed. Then Elvis starts barking. He’s chasing
the horses out of the yard again and sounds like he’s on doggie drugs.
His bark has the edge of hysteria: GET OUT OF MY YAR YAR YAR YAR YARD!

Isla Colón,
Bocas del Toro, Republic of Panama ~ Living
In Bocas ~ by Allene Blaker - A friend of ours in the States sent us
an e-mail recently asking for a one-or two-paragraph description of the
Panamanian island where my husband and I live. Seems he was planning to
send a character in his novel down here to Bocas del Toro for a while.

and the reason for the trip. This island can be different things to different
people, and everything to some. June/04

Wood & Exotic Fruit Goes Beachfront in Panama - The entire Bocas

and the SCLD team have a new project. If you'd like more information
on the new project - Tom has designed an investors seminar about
his latest project. The Panama Smart Money Wealth Seminar will be held
May 21-25. Don't miss out again. Many of the original purchasers
of Teak & Noni waterfront plantations have already been offered a premium
price over the price they paid just a few months ago. It is obvious that
Tom's concept is a winner. March/03
Travel
To Bocas del Toro ~ For
The First Time ~ by Matthew Atlee - I had never visited Bocas del Toro,
though I had been invited on a number of occasions by friends who went
there just about every weekend. I don’t know why, but for some reason I
didn’t want to go and avoided any opportunities to visit. After doing some
research on the history of the Mosquito Coast of which Bocas del Toro is
the southern most point I decided I should go: the history of the place
intrigued me and so on August 13th 2004 I flew to Bocas for the first time.

A Sojourn - In the summer of 1956 I needed a job. The

Santa Catalina
And Coiba Prison Island ~ Little
Known Frontiers ~ by Matthew Atlee - There have been many famous prison
islands throughout history: Alcatraz Island in California, Martin Garcia
Island in Argentina, Dawson Island in Chile, Devil’s Island near French
Guyana, Sakhalin Island in Russia, and Isla Gorgona off the coast
of Peru. And Panama also had its own prison island: Coiba Island on Panama’s
Pacific coast. The penal colony on Coiba Island was established in 1912
and closed in July of 2004: the last 8 prisoners were taken from the island
in July. It’s obvious to see why the island was chosen as a penal colony;
it’s far from the mainland and the waters around the island are infamous
for aggressive sharks and strong currents. Nov./04

Amazing Short
Hops From Panama City ~ Rest
And Relax Near The City ~ By Zvia Leibler - There is a lot to see near
Panama City. You can be in the jungle in 40 minutes and out on Contadora

America that has not systematically killed off its indigenous population.
In fact U.S. astronauts used to train with the Kuna Indians out on the

also. May/03

Excellent Choice for Economic Citizenship - Economic citizenship programs
give you the opportunity to legally acquire a new nationality quickly and
simply, without major disruptions to your life. While there are many “instant
citizenship” schemes promoted on the Internet and elsewhere, currently
only five countries offer legal and clearly defined citizenship for investment
programs on a statutory basis, commonly known as economic citizenship programs.
This article focuses on Dominica. Dominica’s economic citizenship program
is based on a solid legal foundation. It is clearly defined in the laws
and in the constitution of Dominica.

Extreme, Dominica Diving ~ On
The Island Of Dominica ~ by Claudia Belleau - I have come to Coconut
Beach in Dominica, the Nature Island, volcanically spit and shaped in the
Lesser Antilles, to spend Christmas holidays with my spouse Captain Tom.
He arrived here on November 20th, delayed by scores of mudslides that blocked
passage on cliffside roads. The island suffered the only major earthquake
in its history - 6.5 on the Richter scale, the epicenter of the quake was
10 kilometers from the east coast of the island; the quake occurred at
6 a.m. on Sunday, November 21st. Aug./05
The Caribbean’s Best Kept Secret
For Expatriates ~ Dominica
~
by Phillip Townsend - The Caribbean is synonymous
with hedonism - from the mass tourist Mecca of the Bahamas to the off-the-beaten-path

however, is that it's also home to one of the most appealing - and inexpensive

though off the well-trodden path taken by most travelers, has a lot to
offer. So if you're longing for the good life in a tropical haven, duck
the crowds and head to Dominica. Oct./05

estate in the Caribbean that isn't overpriced. But there is a place, one
of my favorite islands, with an idyllic climate, inviting white sand beaches,
and reasonably priced housing and living expenses. It's the Dominican Republic.
The D.R., as it's commonly called, is a pleasant surprise for many first
time visitors. The people are friendly and hard-working, and the D.R. currently
has the best buyers market in the Caribbean... but it won't last forever.

In short, clients have the opportunity to pursue second citizenship from
a stable democratic country, at a cost that is downright inexpensive in

to retire, live or perhaps start a business in the Dominican Republic,
there are a number of attributes that make this country one of the best
places for relocation as well.

“Country Squire” - Real Estate Bargains In The Dominican Republic
- Real
Estate in the Dominican Republic - When you think of the Caribbean,
you think beaches, beaches, and more beaches. The reality is, plenty
of beautiful beachfront property does exist, but there is an equal opportunity
to become a “country squire” as well. Sound too good to be true?
We took a look around at what was available in the Dominican Republic real
estate market recently and found some very reasonably priced building lots
and acreage for our clients. Some of these properties are located
in the beautiful mountain region near Santiago. We also found some
new homes and new residential projects in sections of the Santo Domingo
area that may be ideal for an inexpensive get-a-way or retirement home.
The Dominican
Republic - For many, the country of choice is the Dominican Republic.
In comparison to other well-known and path worn Caribbean destinations,
the Dominican Republic still remains a place where real estate is extremely
affordable, and where the US Dollar stills holds it's value in terms of
spending power. For the price of broom-closet sized apartment in
the Bahamas, you can have a large lovely home in the Dominican Republic,
(a real one.) Additionally, in the Dominican Republic, bank accounts
and yields from fixed income investments provide up to 10% in US Dollar
accounts and up to 22% interest in the Dominican Peso, (the local currency.)
Such income is 100% locally tax - free, which means that the possibilty
of living off the interest from your savings is a distinct reality. Read:

The north coast of the Dominican Republic is considered one of the most
beautiful coast lines in all the Carribbean. The above article gives tons
of details about what to see if you visit the north coast, where to stay,
where to eat, and what to do. Never been to the Dominican Republic, but

place like living in the DR; the mix of people and the beauty of the island
make it a place people don't want to leave. April/03
Using an
Offshore Merchant Account - Using
an Offshore Merchant Account - You now can do business with a bank
or credit card processor in Germany, Singapore, Holland, or any place else
just as easily as "the bank down the road". In fact, nine times out
of ten, you will find the level of service to be much better with a bank
half way around the world, then you will with your neighborhood bank.
Why? They want your business, and they are willing to prove it. The
other benefits are obvious. If you intend to be virtual, the best place
to begin is by becoming virtual in fact. An offshore merchant account places
you in a virtual / offshore jurisdiction with favorable tax consequences.

of Malta lies only forty nautical miles south of Sicily at the 36th degree

Italy and North Africa that was flooded when the ice began to melt. Since
then the waters of the Mediterranean sea have shaped Malta’s coastline

north of Africa’s shoreline, it attracted numerous kings and emperors with

Fire in the
Kitchen - Living
On A Greek Island - A word about this nonuser friendly oven. Most kitchens
on Spetses don't have the generous sized ovens we're used to in America.
You know, the kind with the big old burners on top, which are great for
heating soup and making Jiffy Pop. Then they have a cavernous area which
I think you use for baking cookies and roasting things. All I know is,
they're hell to clean. And I only know that because every time I moved
to a new apartment, I had to clean one. Of course one cleaning was all
they usually needed during my tenure, because those frozen pizzas don¹t
make much of a mess.

all five senses are stretched to their limit. It’s something you
want to experience again and again. It’s something you wish for everyday,

and you never want to. It’s something that motivates you to continue
to live and breathe and feel. It’s what is Greece."

on the Indian Ocean for $90,000 - My favorite Greek Island. Dazzlingly
white-stucco villas and all those pretty traditional village houses with
their sapphire-blue shutters are an indelible image of the Greek islands.
It’s no wonder that visitors dream of living here. Yet the Greek islands
aren’t at all overrun with foreign buyers. Why? There are two reasons:
The first is the climate. Despite all those enticing picture-postcard images,
the Aegean doesn’t enjoy endless summer. Come mid-November, many islanders
set sail for the mainland. Those who haven’t left are battening down the
hatches and preparing for four months of storms, rain, and disrupted ferry
schedules. Entertainment is almost non-existent, and there’s very little
to do except develop an Ouzo habit. by Steenie Harvey

by the mainlander Greeks that Cretans were a little bit dangerous

stereotypes weren’t true at all -- rather, the people I met during the

Islands Of Greece ~ Halki
And Tilos ~ by Richard Robinson - A fleck of limestone in the Aegean,
a few miles off Rhodes, that’s Halki. It has a small town at one end, a
monastery at the other and, snaking eight mountainous miles in between,
the intriguing Tarpon Springs Boulevard. As our holiday drew near, I was
beginning to think there wouldn’t be much to do. Better pack a couple of
extra books. Take the laptop, catch up on some writing. Halki, though,
exceeded expectations. In our first few days there we scaled the castle
heights and located the coat-of-arms of the Grand Master; we bumped along
the Boulevard on the back of a bread van and stayed the night in the monastery.

Three secluded

rentals for less than $300 a month - I spent the past 2 weeks traveling
along Spain’s coast, 2,318 miles from the French town of Angeles-sur-mer,
north of the Pyrenees, back down the coast to Gibraltar & then up to
the westernmost town on Spain’s southern coast, Isla Christina, just 9
miles from the Portuguese boarder... What did I discover? Fabulous beachfront
apartments for much less than $100,000 (on almost empty beaches) several-thousand-square-foot
homes in the coastal hills for less than $80,000, and great rustic fincas
(ranches) with several hundred acres of fertile vineyards and olive trees,
for less than $200,000. I found charming Andalucian hill towns here...
just off the coast, that would make excellent retirement spots or great
places to escape for several months a year for rest & solitude. by

On Margarita Island ~ by Mike Inglis - After spending 7 days on Margarita
Island, Venezuela, I can say, this is where I will semi-retire, sooner

anyone can afford to live here. And when I say live, I mean live and enjoy
life and not just squeak by as many of us will have to do once we retire.

The village is nestled against a lush green tropical hillside and the footpaths

the stone remains of which stick up through the riot of bougainvillea,
jasmine and wild hibiscus and give an effect like that of an abandoned
sculpture garden gone crazy with flowers.

fishing and of course Panama has the best fishing in the world; in fact,
Panama, the word, means an abundance of fish. For years I was unable to
decipher which island John Wayne owned or where the island might be located;
it was only recently – the last year or so - that I realized that a John
Wayne Island did in fact exist and that there was a project being developed
on the island by some Austrians. Oct./04
Paddling Fiji's
Kadavu Island - Paddling
Fiji's Kadavu Island - "Paddling to the edge of the lagoon's reef,
I looked over the side of the kayak. I had the uncanny feeling that I was
scuba diving. Acres of staghorn coral reached for the surface like millions
of deer antlers; countless tiny, florescent blue and green fish darted
among the antlers. Scores of purple-blue starfish lay like a handful of
jewels strewn across the sandy bottom. A large school of flying fish whisked
past. We lazily passed a few tiny, deserted islands ringed with powdery
white sand beaches and coconut-laden palms. I would given anything to set
up house on one of them." Join Melissa McCoy on a Fiji Kayak expedition.

Tracking of Koalas, Kangaroos, and Cockatoos ~ Story by Carol L. Bowman
Photos by Ernie L. Sowers - The dark, deserted building showed no resemblance
to an airport. Noticing our hesitation, the cab driver reassured us that
this was the Adelaide General Aviation Terminal, the departure venue for
Emu Airways’ 84 weekly flights to Kangaroo Island. Much of our eager anticipation
for this sojourn centered on a magical, ecological adventure to Australia’s
third largest island, 30 minutes by air and 120 km. from the mainland.
Being the dutiful U.S. travelers that we are, we arrived at the terminal
the customary 2 hours prior to departure time. Aug./05

archaeological mysteries uncovered by Heyerdahl in the 80s while expounding
some of our own maverick theories on the origins of the Maldivians. They
found a more pressing issue: impending degradation of an ecological niche.

Opportunities - Mauritius is well served by business and communications
infrastructure and is a dynamic economy; the government actively encourages
foreign investment and offshore activity through the Ministry of Industry

venture partners, site locations, and buildings. There is a wide
range of investment incentives for inward investment. Free Trade Zones
and a Freeport were established in 1992 enabling up to 100% foreign owned
enterprises. Money laundering is discouraged by the government, as is any
trade in guns or drugs. The Economic Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act

The island was home to the Caribe and Arawak Indians and then in the early
18th century became a cotton colony. The cotton dried up and the island
was more or less abandoned until the 20th century. Funny how Caribbean
history can unfold. Feb./03

Perhentian
Islands - Perhentian
Islands - The Perhentian are a cluster of islands off the East coast
of the Malaysian Peninsula and are only accessible by a one hour
boat trip from the main land. There are two main islands, known as
Besar and Kecil or more simply big and small island. Both rise up
out of the sea covered in a lush tropical rainforest and are fringed by
palm fronted, white sand beaches. Roads are non-existent and
the only way to get around is by the many small boats which ply round the
islands delivering guests, food, and collecting rubbish. Unlike more
famous Asian beaches, the Perhentian islands are remarkably undeveloped
and no high rise hotels, loud bars or concrete disturbs the natural landscape.

a hot and crowded place, but my favorite city in this part of the world,
probably even ahead of Hong Kong. Poor planning got me there in the middle
of the Thai New Year, which meant everything was shut down for a week,
and I didn't get a chance to see a lot of property. On the other hand,
the whole city goes wild with a water festival; you walk down any street
and after five minutes you're completely soaked from squirt guns and buckets

the hidden environs offer much to the inquisitive visitor. The volcanic
activity has over many years resulted in gigantic craters and valleys surrounded
by mountainous peaks and deep ravines, with rivers far below, pushing their
way to the coast. Often completely surrounded, these valleys are where
inhabitants in tiny villages eke out a primitive existence with age-old
technology."

real-estate developments on the island of Roatan. "For a number of years,
I developed real estate in Arkansas and Colorado... retirement and golf
communities mostly. But after my wife and I had children, I knew I wanted
to bring them up in a more relaxed, more family-oriented place, and my
wife and I wanted to try home schooling. We also wanted to go somewhere
warm and I was looking for a place where I could make a living with a small
real estate project. With these things in mind we began our search for
a place to relocate". by Frank Canale
Sint Maarten/Saint
Martin ~ The
Friendly Island - France and the Netherlands have shared this haven
of sand, sea and sun peacefully for more than three centuries. The Dutch
call it Sint Maarten and on the French side the signs say Saint Martin.
Not that there is a particularly obvious separation. You can drive, or
walk, over a border untended and unmarked except for a sign of welcome
to one country or the other. St. Maarten/St. Martin is the smallest island
in the world to be shared by two sovereign powers and it has been that
way since 1648 when France and the Netherlands signed a partition treaty.
However, over the years people of many different nationalities have made
their home on the island and have influenced its development. Oct./04

Pacific coast. The penal colony on Coiba Island was established in 1912
and closed in July of 2004: the last 8 prisoners were taken from the island
in July. It’s obvious to see why the island was chosen as a penal colony;

In the course of a single memorable afternoon, I rediscovered the lost

A Plantation
In The South Pacific - Vanish To Vanuatu ~ Vanish
To Vanuatu - There are perhaps three ways to look at property: As a
productive asset, as a speculative holding, or as a lifestyle proposition.
I've spent a fair amount of time and money flying around Vanuatu to get
a grip on property, and I think it's worth considering, possibly on all
three bases.Vanuatu is certainly one of the world’s more beautiful locations.
James Michener used it as the model for Bali Hai when he wrote Tales of
the South Pacific while he was stationed here during WW II. The French
developed numerous copra plantations on the islands over the 100 years
up to independence in 1980, and they're still the dominant factor in today's
economy.

Choices - Trying to Pick a New Country to Live In - There are opportunities
everywhere. I’ve heard from reliable sources that no one, I repeat, no
one is supplying fresh produce or vegetables on any of the American Virgin
Islands. Produce has to shipped into the Virgins from afar at great
shipping cost. (causing the available produce in V.I. markets to be high
in price and dated in flavor.) The reason for the lack of locally grown
produce, or so we’ve been told, is a scarcity of water. There are
several ways to grow fresh vegetables hydroponically that utilize low water-consumption
methods. As a matter of fact, upon hearing about that lack of fresh produce
in the Virgins I spent several days reading about hydroponic methods and
thinking about what it would take to set up such a venture. It was
a rather intriguing few days. It would be lots of hard work, but
in our opinion it would be fun, in addition to it’s having the potential
of being extremely lucrative. There are numerous nearby islands that
would also be interested in purchasing fresh produce. The venture
would take some serious research. Hydroponics is a science; but it
isn’t rocket science and we believe that anyone with a brain could learn
what is required to be successful.

you to breathe the fragrant frangipani blossoms, to uncoil the muscle of

vying for attention with the aqua-shuttered flamingo pink houses and red
tin roofs beckoning from Road Town. You might be arriving on your own vessel,
or one chartered from one of the many Caribbean companies found here. Dec./05
