Vicky Stuart and Kate Kirby are two Scottish artists who offer Painting Holidays aimed at individuals and small groups. By coincidence they are both graduates of Edinburgh College of Art. They both paint and draw as much as the demands of family life allow. Kate is an experienced tutor and exhibits regularly.

I stayed at La Susana, which has been the Stuart’s family home for three generations. It is a rambling, interesting house, a fascinating mix of Anglo – Argentine architecture and furniture. I was very warmly welcomed. The emphasis is not on luxury but informal comfort – in other words expect to be treated like an old family friend. 

As this is a small enterprise, the holidays are tailored to the individual. Vicky and Kate try to accommodate their clients preferred dates. It is possible to combine a few days painting here with a stay elsewhere. 

I was very keen to develop my painting skills and worked hard while I was there, however that was my choice – if you want to have a slower pace that is no problem. A typical day would include several painting sessions, with tuition and feedback, then a swim in the pool and a home cooked dinner or asado. 

Painting Holidays are a new concept in Argentina though they are very popular in Europe and I can see why – I had a wonderful holiday in all senses- I made new friends, ate delicious food and discovered new places. Best of all I found a fresh confidence and pleasure in my drawing and painting skills.

Finca La Susana, 7km outside San Rafael in the south of the Province of Mendoza, is the tranquil setting for our painting holidays. We offer individual tuition within small groups to artists with all levels of experience, including complete beginners. "We" are a group of friends; Kate and Vicky are both practising painters and originally from Scotland, although we met here in San Rafael. Also very much part of the team are our husbands, Robbie and Mike, who are excellent cooks and knowledgable about the wonderful local wines.  Together we can offer you an unforgettable holiday developing your artistic skills in the beautiful landscapes of San Rafael while staying in a comfortable and welcoming home where you will be treated like a family friend. We give tuition in english and spanish.  If you are travelling from outside the country Susan, Robbie's sister, will be happy to meet you at the airport in Buenos Aires.
